The descendants of Levi

¹The sons of Levi: Gershom, Kohath and Merari.^{a 2}These are the names of the sons of Gershom: Libni and Shimei. ³The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. ⁴The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. These are the clans of the Levites, by their ancestral families. ⁵From Gershom: Libni his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah his son, ⁶Joah his son, Iddo his son, Zerah his son, Jeatherai his son. ⁷The descendants of Kohath: Amminadab his son, Korah his son, Assir his son,^{b 8}Elkanah his son, Ebiasaph his son, Assir his son, ⁹Tahath his son, Uriel his son, Uzziah his son and Shaul his son. ¹⁰The sons of Elkanah: Amasai and Ahimoth. ¹¹Elkanah: the sons of Elkanah were Zophai his son and Nahath his son,^{c 12}Eliab his son, Jeroham his son, Elkanah his son. ¹³The sons of Samuel: Vashni the firstborn, and Abijah.^d

The singers David appointed

¹⁶These are the men David put in charge of the singing in the house of the LORD after the ark had come to rest. ¹⁷Until Solomon built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem, they ministered with song before the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, carrying out their service in the order laid down for them. ¹⁸These are the men who served, with their sons. From the Kohathites: Heman the singer, son of Joel, son of Samuel, ¹⁹son of Elkanah, son of Jeroham, son of Eliel, son of Toah, ²⁰son of Zuph, son of Elkanah, son of Mahath, son of Amasai, ²¹son of Elkanah, son of Joel, son of Azariah, son of Zephaniah, ²²son of Tahath, son of Assir, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, ²³son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, son of Israel. ²⁴His kinsman Asaph stood at his right hand: Asaph son of Berechiah, son of Shimea, ²⁵son of Michael, son of Baaseiah, son of Malchijah, ²⁶son of Ethni, son of Zerah, son of Adaiah, ²⁷son of Ethan, son of Zimmah, son of Shimei, ²⁸son of Jahath, son of Gershom, son of Levi.

²⁹On the left were their kinsmen, the descendants of Merari: Ethan son of Kishi, son of Abdi, son of Malluch, ³⁰son of Hashabiah, son of Amaziah, son of Hilkiah, ³¹son of Amzi, son of Bani, son of Shemer, ³²son of Mahli, son of Mushi, son of Merari, son of Levi.

³³Their fellow Levites were appointed to all the service of the tabernacle, the house of God. ³⁴But Aaron and his sons made the offerings go up in smoke on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense. They did all the work of the Most Holy Place and made atonement for Israel, just as Moses the servant of God had commanded.

³⁵These are the descendants of Aaron: Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son, ³⁶Bukki his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son, ³⁷Meraioth his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son, ³⁸Zadok his son, Ahimaaz his son.

The towns of the Levites

³⁹These are the places where they lived, their settlements within their territory. To the descendants of Aaron, of the clan of the Kohathites, the lot fell. ⁴⁰They gave them Hebron in the land of Judah, and its pasturelands around it. ⁴¹But the fields of the town and its villages they had given to Caleb son of Jephunneh.

⁴²To the descendants of Aaron they gave one of the cities of refuge, Hebron, along with Libnah and its pasturelands, Jattir, and Eshtemoa and its pasturelands, ⁴³Hilez and its pasturelands, Debir and its pasturelands,^{e 44}Ashan and its pasturelands, and Beth-shemesh and its pasturelands.

⁴⁵From the tribe of Benjamin they gave Geba and its pasturelands, Alemeth and its pasturelands, and Anathoth and its pasturelands. Their towns numbered thirteen in all, clan by clan.

⁴⁶The rest of the descendants of Kohath received ten towns by lot from the clan of the tribe and from the half-tribe of Manasseh.^f

⁴⁷The descendants of Gershom, clan by clan, received thirteen towns from the tribes of Issachar, Asher and Naphtali and from the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.

⁴⁸The descendants of Merari, clan by clan, received twelve towns by lot from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun. ⁴⁹So the Israelites gave the Levites the towns and their pasturelands. ⁵⁰From the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin they gave by lot these towns, which are mentioned by name.

⁵¹As for some of the clans of the descendants of Kohath, the towns of their territory came from the tribe of Ephraim. ⁵²They gave them one of the cities of refuge, Shechem and its pasturelands in the hill country of Ephraim, along with Gezer and its pasturelands, ⁵³Jokmeam and its pasturelands, Beth-horon and its pasturelands, ⁵⁴Aijalon and its pasturelands, and Gath-rimmon and its pasturelands.

⁵⁵From the half-tribe of Manasseh they gave Aner and its pasturelands, and Bileam and its pasturelands. These went to the clan of the rest of the descendants of Kohath.

⁵⁶To the descendants of Gershom they gave, from the clan of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan and its pasturelands, and Ashtaroth and its pasturelands.

⁵⁷From the tribe of Issachar they gave Kedesh and its pasturelands, Daberath and its pasturelands, ⁵⁸Ramoth and its pasturelands, and Anem and its pasturelands.

⁵⁹From the tribe of Asher they gave Mashal and its pasturelands, Abdon and its pasturelands, ⁶⁰Hukok and its pasturelands, and Rehob and its pasturelands. ⁶¹From the tribe of Naphtali they gave Kedesh in Galilee and its pasturelands, Hammon and its pasturelands, and Kiriathaim and its pasturelands.

⁶²To the descendants of Merari, the remaining Levites, they gave from the tribe of Zebulun Rimmono and its pasturelands, and Tabor and its pasturelands. ⁶³Across the Jordan from Jericho, on the east side of the Jordan, they gave from the tribe of Reuben Bezer in the wilderness and its pasturelands, Jahaz and its pasturelands, ⁶⁴Kedemoth and its pasturelands, and Mephaath and its pasturelands. ⁶⁵From the tribe of Gad they gave Ramoth in Gilead and its pasturelands, Mahanaim and its pasturelands, ⁶⁶Heshbon and its pasturelands, and Jazer and its pasturelands.
