The death of Moses

1Moses climbed from the plains of Moab up Mount Nebo, to the summit of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the LORD showed him the whole land: Gilead as far as Dan, 2all Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the territory of Judah as far as the western sea, 3the Negev, and the plain, the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. 4Then the LORD said to him, “This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, when I told them, ‘To your descendants I will give it.’ I have shown it to you with your own eyes, but you will not go over into it.” 5There, in the land of Moab, Moses the servant of the LORD died, as the LORD had said. 6He buried him in the land of Moab, in the valley opposite Beth-peor, and to this day no one knows where his grave is. 7Moses was 120 years old when he died. His eyesight had not dimmed, and his strength had not left him. 8The Israelites wept for Moses in the plains of Moab for thirty days, until the days of weeping and mourning for Moses came to an end. 9Joshua son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, since Moses had laid his hands on him. The Israelites obeyed him, doing what the LORD had commanded Moses. 10Never again has Israel had a prophet like Moses, one the LORD knew face to face, 11none like him in all the signs and wonders the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt, against Pharaoh, all his officials and his whole land, 12and in all the mighty power and all the great and terrifying deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.
