Ezekiel 2

Translated from the Hebrew of the Westminster Leningrad Codex. Tap a verse to see why it reads as it does. Tap a small letter to read its footnote.

The LORD sends Ezekiel

1He said to me, “Son of man, stand up on your feet, and I will speak with you.” 2As he spoke to me, the Spirit came into me and stood me up on my feet, and I heard him speaking to me.

3He said to me, “Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, to rebellious nations that have revolted against me. They and their ancestors have rebelled against me to this very day. 4Their descendants are brazen and stubborn. I am sending you to them, and you will say to them, The Lord GOD says this. 5Whether they listen or refuse—for they are a rebellious house—they will come to know that a prophet has been among them.

6As for you, son of man, do not fear them or what they say, though thorns and briers surround you and you live among scorpions. Do not fear their words or be dismayed by their looks, for they are a rebellious house. 7You must speak my words to them, whether they listen or refuse, for they are rebellious.

A scroll to eat

8But you, son of man, listen to what I am saying to you. Do not rebel as that rebellious house does. Open your mouth and eat what I am giving you.” 9Then I looked, and I saw a hand stretched out toward me, and in it was a written scroll. 10He unrolled it in front of me, and it had writing on the front and on the back. Written on it were laments and mourning and woe.
