A promise to Baruch
1This is the word that the prophet Jeremiah spoke to Baruch son of Neriah in the fourth year of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, when Baruch wrote these words in a scroll at Jeremiah’s dictation:
2“The LORD, the God of Israel, says this to you, Baruch: 3You have said, ‘Woe is me! The LORD has heaped sorrow on top of my pain. I am weary from my groaning, and I can find no rest.’
4Say this to him: ‘The LORD says this: What I have built I am about to tear down, and what I have planted I am about to uproot, the whole land. 5As for you, are you seeking great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For I am about to bring disaster on all humankind, declares the LORD, but I will let you come away with your life as your plunder wherever you go.’”a
