Zaburi 132

The LORD’s oath to David and his choice of Zion

1A song of ascents. LORD, remember David and all the hardship he went through, 2how he made an oath to the LORD and a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob, 3“I will not set foot in my own house or climb into my bed, 4I will not let my eyes sleep or my eyelids close, 5until I have found the LORD a place to stay, a home for the Mighty One of Jacob.” 6Listen! We heard of it in Ephrathah, and came across it in the fields of Jaar. 7Come, we will enter his home and bow down before the footstool under his feet. 8Rise up, LORD! Come to the place where you will rest, you and the ark of your might. 9Let your priests be dressed in righteousness, and let those loyal to you cry out with joy. 10Because of David your servant, do not refuse the king you have anointed. 11The LORD has given David his word on oath, a true word he will never take back: “I will place a child of your own body on your throne. 12If your sons are faithful to my covenant and to the decrees I will teach them, their sons as well will sit on your throne for all time.” 13For the LORD chose Zion; he longed to make it his home. 14“Here is my resting place for all time; I will live here, for this is the place I longed for. 15I will richly bless the city’s food supply; I will give its poor all the bread they need. 16I will dress its priests in salvation, and its faithful people will shout and sing for joy. 17There I will make David’s horn sprout up; I have trimmed a lamp for my anointed king. 18I will dress his enemies in shame, but the crown on his head will gleam.”
