Moab and Judah

1The LORD says this: \q For three crimes of Moab, \q even for four, I will not hold back the punishment, \q because he burned the bones of Edom’s king to lime. 2So I will send fire on Moab, \q and it will devour the fortresses of Kerioth. \q Moab will die amid the uproar, \q amid war cries and the sound of the ram’s horn. 3I will cut off the ruler from among its people \q and kill all its officials with him, says the LORD.

4The LORD says this: \q For three crimes of Judah, \q even for four, I will not hold back the punishment, \q because they rejected the instruction of the LORD and did not keep his statutes; \q their lies have led them astray, \q the lies their ancestors followed. 5So I will send fire on Judah, \q and it will devour the fortresses of Jerusalem.

Israel

6The LORD says this: \q For three crimes of Israel, \q even for four, I will not hold back the punishment, \q because they sell the innocent for silver \q and the needy for a pair of sandals. 7They trample the heads of the poor into the dust of the ground \q and push the humble out of the way. \q A man and his father sleep with the same young woman, \q and so they profane my holy name. 8They stretch out on garments taken in pledge \q beside every altar, \q and they drink wine taken as fines \q in the house of their God. 9Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorites before them, \q though they were as tall as cedars \q and as strong as oaks. \q I destroyed their fruit above \q and their roots below. 10It was I who brought you up from the land of Egypt \q and led you through the wilderness for forty years, \q so that you could take possession of the land of the Amorites. 11I raised up prophets from among your sons \q and Nazirites from among your young men. \q Is this not true, people of Israel? declares the LORD. 12But you made the Nazirites drink wine, \q and you ordered the prophets, \q “Do not prophesy.” 13Look, I am going to make the ground shake beneath you, \q as a cart shakes \q when it is loaded with sheaves. 14Even the swift will have no way to escape, \q the strong will not be able to use his strength, \q and the warrior will not save his own life. 15The archer will not stand his ground, \q the swift runner will not get away, \q and the horseman will not save his life. 16Even the bravest of the warriors \q will flee naked on that day, declares the LORD.
