The borders of the land of Canaan

¹The LORD spoke to Moses. He said, ²“Give the Israelites this command and tell them: ‘You are about to enter the land of Canaan. Here is the land that will fall to you as your inheritance, the land of Canaan with these borders: ³Your southern side will take in the wilderness of Zin, alongside Edom. On the east, your southern border will start at the end of the Dead Sea. ⁴From there your border will turn and run south of the Ascent of Akrabbim and on to Zin, reaching as far as the south of Kadesh-barnea. Then it will go out to Hazar-addar and on to Azmon. ⁵From Azmon the border will bend around to the Wadi of Egypt and end at the sea. ⁶Your western border will be the Great Sea and its coast. That will be your border on the west. ⁷This will be your northern border: from the Great Sea mark out a line to Mount Hor.^{a 8}From Mount Hor mark it out to Lebo-hamath, and the border will reach out to Zedad. ⁹The border will continue to Ziphron and end at Hazar-enan. This will be your northern border. ¹⁰For your eastern border, mark out a line from Hazar-enan to Shepham. ¹¹From Shepham the border will go down to Riblah, on the east side of Ain, and on down until it meets the slopes east of the Sea of Chinnereth. ¹²Then the border will go down along the Jordan and end at the Dead Sea. This will be your land, with its borders on every side.’” ¹³Moses gave the Israelites this command: “This is the land you are to divide among yourselves by lot as your inheritance. The LORD has commanded that it be given to the nine tribes and the half-tribe. ¹⁴For the tribe of the Reubenites and the tribe of the Gadites, by their ancestral families, have already received their inheritance, and so has the half-tribe of Manasseh. ¹⁵These two tribes and the half-tribe have received their inheritance across the Jordan from Jericho, on the east, toward the sunrise.”

The men who are to divide the land

¹⁶The LORD spoke to Moses. He said, ¹⁷“These are the names of the men who are to divide the land among you as your inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun. ¹⁸You are also to take one leader from every tribe to divide up the land. ¹⁹These are the names of the men: from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh, ²⁰from the tribe of Simeon, Shemuel son of Ammihud, ²¹from the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad son of Chislon, ²²from the tribe of Dan, the leader Bukki son of Jogli, ²³from the descendants of Joseph: from the tribe of Manasseh, the leader Hanniel son of Ephod, ²⁴from the tribe of Ephraim, the leader Kemuel son of Shiphtan, ²⁵from the tribe of Zebulun, the leader Elizaphan son of Parnach, ²⁶from the tribe of Issachar, the leader Paltiel son of Azzan, ²⁷from the tribe of Asher, the leader Ahihud son of Shelomi, ²⁸and from the tribe of Naphtali, the leader Pedahel son of Ammihud.” ²⁹These are the men whom the LORD commanded to divide the inheritance among the Israelites in the land of Canaan.
