The holy portion of the land

1When you allot the land as an inheritance, you are to set apart a special portion for the LORD, a holy portion of the land, about 8 1/4 miles long and about 3 1/3 miles wide. All of it will be holy. 2Of this area, a square about 880 feet on each side is to be for the sanctuary, with about 87 1/2 feet of open land around it. 3In the area you measure, you are to mark off a section about 8 1/4 miles long and about 3 1/3 miles wide. The sanctuary, the most holy place, will be in it. 4This holy portion of the land is to belong to the priests who serve in the sanctuary, who come near to serve the LORD. It will be a place for their houses and a holy area for the sanctuary. 5Another area about 8 1/4 miles long and about 3 1/3 miles wide is to belong to the Levites who serve in the temple, as their property: twenty rooms. 6As the city’s property you are to assign an area about 1 2/3 miles wide and about 8 1/4 miles long, next to the holy portion. It will belong to the whole house of Israel. 7The prince is to have the land on both sides of the holy portion and the city’s property, next to the holy portion and the city’s property, reaching west from the western side and east from the eastern side, its length matching one of the tribal portions, from the western border to the eastern border. 8This land is to be his property in Israel. Then my princes will no longer oppress my people, but will let the house of Israel have the land according to their tribes.

Honest rulers and honest measures

9the Lord GOD says this: Enough, princes of Israel! Put an end to violence and destruction, and do what is just and right. Stop driving my people off their land, declares the Lord GOD. 10You are to use honest scales, an honest ephah and an honest bath. 11The ephah and the bath are to be the same size, the bath holding about 6 gallons and the ephah about 6 gallons. The homer is to be the standard for both. 12The shekel is to be twenty gerahs. Your mina is to be about 8 ounces plus about 10 ounces plus about 6 ounces. 13This is the special offering you are to give: about a gallon from every 6 bushels of wheat, and about a gallon from every 6 bushels of barley. 14The portion of oil, measured by the bath, is to be about 2 1/2 quarts from every 60 gallons (a kor is ten baths, the same as a homer, for ten baths make a homer). 15and one sheep out of every 200 from the well-watered pastures of Israel. These will be used for grain offerings, burnt offerings and peace offerings, to make atonement on the people’s behalf, declares the Lord GOD. 16All the people of the land are to give this special offering to the prince in Israel. 17The prince is to be responsible for the burnt offerings, the grain offerings and the drink offerings at the festivals, the new moons and the Sabbaths, at all the appointed festivals of the house of Israel. He is to supply the sin offerings, grain offerings, burnt offerings and peace offerings that make atonement for the house of Israel.

The yearly festivals

18the Lord GOD says this: In the first month, on its first day, you are to take a young bull without defect and purify the sanctuary. 19The priest is to take some blood from the sin offering and smear it on the temple doorposts, on the four corners of the altar’s upper ledge and on the doorposts of the gate of the inner court. 20You are to do the same on the seventh day of the month for anyone who sins by mistake or without knowing it. In this way you will make atonement for the temple. 21On the fourteenth day of the first month you are to celebrate the Passover, a festival lasting seven days, during which bread made without yeast is to be eaten. 22On that day the prince is to provide a young bull as a sin offering on behalf of himself and all the people of the land. 23During the seven days of the festival he is to provide seven young bulls and seven rams without defect as a burnt offering to the LORD each day for the seven days, and a male goat each day as a sin offering. 24He is to provide a grain offering of about 6 gallons for each bull and about 6 gallons for each ram, together with about a gallon of oil for each ephah. 25In the seventh month, on the fifteenth day, at the festival, he is to make the same provision for seven days: the same sin offerings, burnt offerings, grain offerings and oil.
