Horses from Egypt or the Holy One of Israel

1Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help! \q They lean on horses; \q they put their confidence in chariots, for there are many of them, and in cavalry, for it is very strong. \q But they do not turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel; \q they do not inquire of the LORD. 2But he is wise as well: he brings disaster and does not withdraw what he has said. \q He will rise up against the house of evildoers \q and against those who come to the aid of wrongdoers. 3Egypt is human and not God; \q its horses are flesh and not spirit. \q The LORD will stretch out his hand: the one who gives help will stagger, the one who receives it will go down, \q and both will be finished together.

The LORD comes down to Mount Zion

4For the LORD has said this to me: Think of a lion, a young lion, rumbling over its kill. A crowd of shepherds is called out against it, \q yet their yelling does not scare it \q and their uproar does not make it shrink back. \q In the same way the LORD of Armies will come down to wage war on Mount Zion and on its hill. 5Like birds on the wing, the LORD of Armies will protect Jerusalem: \q he will protect and rescue, he will pass over and deliver. 6Turn back, Israelites, to the one from whom they have gone so deep into rebellion. 7For on that day each of them will spurn their idols of silver and their idols of gold, \q the sin your own hands have made for you. 8Assyria will fall by a sword that no man wields; \q a sword that is not human will devour it. \q It will run from the sword, \q and its young men will be made slave laborers. 9Its rock will give way in terror, \q its officers will be shaken at the sight of the signal flag, \q declares the LORD, who keeps a fire in Zion \q and a furnace in Jerusalem.
