A ruler from Bethlehem

The remnant of Jacob among the nations

⁶The remnant of Jacob will be among many peoples \q like dew sent by the LORD, \q like showers on the grass, \q which wait for no one \q and depend on no human being. ⁷The remnant of Jacob will live among the nations, surrounded by many peoples, \q like a lion among the wild animals, \q like a young lion prowling among flocks of sheep, \q which tramples and tears as it goes, with no one to rescue. ⁸May your hand be raised in triumph over your foes, \q and may all your enemies be cut off.

Horses, cities and idols cut off

⁹On that day, declares the LORD, \q I will cut off your horses from among you \q and destroy your chariots. ¹⁰I will cut off the cities of your land \q and pull down all your strongholds. ¹¹I will cut off the sorceries you practice, \q and you will have no more fortune-tellers. ¹²I will cut off your carved idols and your sacred stones from among you, \q and you will never again bow down to what your own hands have made. ¹³I will uproot your Asherah poles from among you \q and destroy your cities. ¹⁴In anger and fury I will take vengeance \q on the nations that have not obeyed.
