Job answers the LORD
1Then Job answered the LORD: 2I know that you can do everything; \q no purpose of yours can be stopped.a 3You asked, “Who is this who hides my plan without knowledge?” \q Truly I have spoken of what I did not understand, \q things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. 4You said, “Listen now, and I will speak; \q I will question you, and you will answer me.”b 5I had heard of you by what my ears were told, \q but now my own eyes have seen you. 6So I take back what I said, \q and I repent in dust and ashes.cd
The LORD rebukes Job’s friends
7After the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My anger burns against you and against your two friends, because you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.e 8So now take seven bulls and seven rams, go to my servant Job, and offer a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you as your folly deserves. For you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.” 9So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did what the LORD had told them, and the LORD accepted Job’s prayer. 10When Job prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes, and the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.f 11All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate a meal with him in his house. They showed him sympathy and comforted him for all the trouble the LORD had brought on him, and each of them gave him a piece of money and a gold ring.
The LORD blesses the latter days of Job
12The LORD blessed the last part of Job’s life more than the first. He had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. 13He also had seven sons and three daughters. 14He named the first Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-happuch. 15In all the land there were no women as beautiful as Job’s daughters, and their father gave them an inheritance along with their brothers.
16After this Job lived 140 years, and he saw his children and grandchildren to the fourth generation. 17And Job died, old and satisfied with his days.
