Purification after childbirth

¹The LORD spoke to Moses. He said, ²“Speak to the Israelites and tell them: ‘When a woman becomes pregnant and gives birth to a boy, she will be unclean for seven days. She will be unclean just as she is during her monthly period. ³On the eighth day the boy is to be circumcised. ⁴She is then to remain thirty-three days in the time of her blood purification. Until those days are over, she must not touch anything holy or come into the sanctuary. ⁵If she gives birth to a girl, she will be unclean for two weeks, as she is during her monthly period. She is then to remain sixty-six days in the time of her blood purification. ⁶When the days of her purification are over, whether for a son or a daughter, she is to bring to the priest, at the entrance of the tent of meeting, a lamb a year old for a burnt offering and a young pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering. ⁷He is to present it before the LORD and make atonement for her, and then she will be clean from her flow of blood. This is the law for a woman who gives birth to a boy or a girl. ⁸If she cannot afford a lamb, she is to take two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. The priest will make atonement for her, and she will be clean.’”
