A man’s discharge
1The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron. He said, 2“Speak to the Israelites and tell them: ‘When any man has a discharge from his body, the discharge makes him unclean.a 3This is the uncleanness his discharge brings: whether his body lets the discharge flow or it is stopped up, either way he is unclean.b 4Any bed that the man with the discharge lies on becomes unclean, and so does any object he sits on. 5Whoever touches his bed is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. 6Whoever sits on anything the man with the discharge has sat on is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. 7Whoever touches the body of the man with the discharge is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. 8When the man with the discharge spits on someone who is clean, that person is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. 9Any saddle the man with the discharge rides on becomes unclean. 10Anyone who touches anything that was under him will be unclean until evening, and whoever carries such things is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. 11If the man with the discharge touches someone without first rinsing his hands in water, that person is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. 12If the man with the discharge touches a clay pot, it is to be broken; if he touches a wooden container, it is to be rinsed in water. 13When the man with the discharge is healed of it, he is to count seven days for his cleansing. Then he is to wash his clothes and bathe his body in fresh water, and he will be clean. 14On the eighth day he is to get two turtledoves or two young pigeons and bring them before the LORD to the entrance of the tent of meeting, where he gives them to the priest. 15The priest is to offer one bird as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, and so make atonement for him before the LORD on account of his discharge.
A man’s emission of semen
16If semen comes out of a man, he is to bathe his whole body in water, and he remains unclean until evening. 17If semen gets on any piece of clothing or leather, it is to be washed in water and will stay unclean until evening.
Sexual relations and a woman’s period
18When a man lies with a woman and semen is released, both of them are to bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. 19When a woman has a discharge, and what flows from her body is blood, her monthly period keeps her unclean for seven days. Anyone who touches her will be unclean until evening. 20During her period, whatever she lies on and whatever she sits on becomes unclean. 21Whoever touches her bed is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. 22Whoever touches any object she has sat on is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. 23Even if something is lying on her bed or on the seat she uses, whoever touches it will be unclean until evening.c 24If a man actually lies with her and the impurity of her period gets on him, he will be unclean seven days. Every bed he lies on will also become unclean.d
A woman’s prolonged flow of blood
25A woman may have a flow of blood for many days when it is not the time of her period, or a flow that goes on past her period. All the days of that unclean flow she is to be as she is in the days of her period: she is unclean. 26All the time the flow lasts, any bed she lies on is to be treated like her bed during her period, and any object she sits on becomes unclean, as it would during her period. 27Whoever touches these things becomes unclean. They are to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. 28Once her flow has stopped, she is to count seven days; then she will be clean. 29On the eighth day she is to get two turtledoves or two young pigeons and bring them to the priest at the entrance of the tent of meeting. 30The priest is to offer one bird as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, and so make atonement for her before the LORD on account of her unclean flow.’ 31You must keep the Israelites apart from their uncleanness, so that it does not bring death on them when they defile my tabernacle, which is among them.e 32These are the instructions for the man with a discharge, for a man whose semen comes out from him and makes him unclean, 33for the woman who is unwell with her monthly period, for anyone, male or female, who has a discharge, and for the man who lies with a woman while she is unclean.”
