Betrayed by a friend, upheld by God

1For the music director. A psalm of David. 2How blessed are those who care about the weak! When trouble comes, the LORD will rescue them. 3The LORD will protect them and keep them alive; they will be counted blessed in the land. Do not hand them over to the will of their enemies! 4The LORD will hold them up on their sickbed; when they are ill, You turn their whole bed of sickness to health. 5I said, “LORD, show me grace! Heal me, because it is You I have sinned against.” 6My enemies say cruel things about me: “When will he die and be wiped from memory?” 7When any of them come to visit me, they say what they do not mean, while inside they gather up bad news; then they go out and spread it. 8All who hate me whisper together about me; they plot harm against me, saying, 9“Some deadly thing has been poured into him; now that he is down, he will never get up again.” 10Even the friend I was at peace with, the one I trusted, who shared my bread, has turned his heel against me. 11But You, LORD, show me grace and lift me up, so that I can pay them back. 12This is how I know You are pleased with me: my enemy does not get to cheer in triumph over me. 13As for me, You keep hold of me in my integrity and let me stand before Your face for all time. 14May the LORD, the God of Israel, be blessed from ages past to ages to come! Amen and amen.
