The people give more than enough
1Bezalel, Oholiab and every skilled person whom the LORD has gifted with skill and understanding, so that they know how to do every task in the service of the sanctuary, will carry out the work exactly as the LORD has commanded.”a 2Moses called for Bezalel and Oholiab, along with all whom the LORD had made skillful, everyone whose heart stirred them to come forward and do the work. 3Moses handed over to them all the contributions that the Israelites had brought for the work of the sanctuary service, so that they could carry it out. Still the people kept bringing him freewill offerings every morning. 4So all the skilled workers who were carrying out the work of the sanctuary came, each one leaving the task in hand, 5and told Moses, “The people keep bringing more than enough for the task the LORD has commanded us to carry out.” 6Moses gave a command, and it was announced throughout the camp: “Men and women alike must stop preparing gifts for the sanctuary.” So the people were held back from bringing any more. 7The materials they had were enough for all the work, and there was some to spare.
Making the tabernacle curtains
8All the skilled craftsmen among the workers made the tabernacle from ten curtains of fine twisted linen and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, with cherubim worked into them, the design of a skilled craftsman.b 9Each curtain was about 42 feet long and about 6 feet wide; all the curtains had one measure. 10They joined five of the curtains to one another, and the other five they joined to one another as well. 11They put loops of blue yarn on the outer edge of the last curtain in the first set, and likewise on the edge of the outermost curtain of the second set. 12They put fifty loops on the one curtain and fifty on the end of the curtain in the second set, so that the loops lined up with each other. 13They made fifty clasps of gold and joined the two sets of curtains with them, one to the other. So the tabernacle became one whole.
Making the tent of goats’ hair
14Then they made eleven curtains of goats’ hair to be a tent over the tabernacle. 15Each curtain was about 45 feet long and about 6 feet wide; all eleven had one measure. 16They joined five curtains together by themselves, and six by themselves. 17On the outer edge of the last curtain in the first set they put fifty loops, and fifty more on the edge of the joining curtain in the second set. 18They made fifty clasps of bronze to join the tent together so that it became one whole. 19They made a covering for the tent out of rams’ skins dyed red, and over that a covering of fine leather.c
Making the frames and the inner curtain
20They made frames of acacia wood for the tabernacle, to stand upright.d 21Every frame was about 15 feet high and about 2 1/4 feet wide. 22Every frame had two tenons, joined one to the other. They did this for every frame of the tabernacle.e 23For the south side of the tabernacle they made twenty frames. 24Under the twenty frames they made forty bases of silver, two beneath every frame to receive its two tenons. 25For the other side of the tabernacle, the north side, they made twenty frames 26with their forty silver bases, two under each frame. 27For the back of the tabernacle, the west end, they made six frames. 28They made two more frames for the back corners of the tabernacle. 29They were double from the bottom and joined together at the top in a single ring. They made both corner frames this way, for the two corners.f 30So the back wall had eight frames standing on sixteen silver bases, a pair beneath every frame. 31They also made crossbars from acacia wood, five of them for the frames along one side of the tabernacle, 32five for the frames of its other side, and five for the frames of the rear wall facing west. 33They made the middle crossbar to run halfway up the frames, reaching from one end to the other.g 34They overlaid the frames with gold and made their rings of gold as holders for the crossbars; the crossbars too they overlaid with gold. 35They made the inner curtain of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen, with cherubim worked into its design by a skilled craftsman. 36For it they made four pillars of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold. Their hooks were gold, and they cast four bases of silver for them. 37They made a screen for the doorway of the tent from blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen, worked in colors by an embroiderer. 38They also made its five pillars with their hooks. They overlaid the tops of the pillars and their bands with gold, and the five bases were bronze.h
