Sabbath rest
1Moses gathered the whole community of the Israelites and said to them, “These are the things the LORD has commanded you to do: 2There are six days in which work may be done, but the seventh day is to be holy for you, a Sabbath of full rest to the LORD. Anyone who works on it must be put to death. 3On the Sabbath day no fire is to be lit anywhere you live.”
Gifts for the tent of meeting
4Then Moses told the whole community of the Israelites, “This is what the LORD has commanded: 5Set aside among yourselves a contribution for the LORD. Everyone whose heart moves them to give is to bring it as the LORD’s contribution: gold, silver and bronze; 6blue, purple and scarlet yarn, fine linen, goats’ hair, 7rams’ skins dyed red, fine leather, acacia wood,a 8oil for the lamps, spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense, 9and onyx stones and other stones to be set in the ephod and the breastpiece. 10Every one of you who is wise of heart is to come and make all that the LORD has commanded: 11the tabernacle with its tent and its covering, its clasps, frames, crossbars, pillars and bases; 12the ark and its poles, the mercy seat, and the curtain that screens it off; 13the table with its poles and all its utensils, and the bread of the Presence; 14the lampstand for the light with its utensils and its lamps, and the oil for the light; 15the altar of incense with its poles, the anointing oil and the fragrant incense, and the screen for the doorway at the entrance to the tabernacle; 16the altar of burnt offering with its bronze grating, its poles and all its utensils; the basin with its stand; 17the hangings of the courtyard with its pillars and bases, and the screen for the gateway of the courtyard; 18the tent pegs for the tabernacle and for the courtyard, with their cords; 19the finely woven garments for service in the sanctuary, both the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons when they serve as priests.”b 20Then the whole community of the Israelites went out from Moses. 21Then each one whose heart stirred them, and each one whose spirit moved them to give, came with the LORD’s contribution, to be used in building the tent of meeting, in all the service there, and in making the holy garments. 22They came, the men along with the women, all who had willing hearts, and they brought brooches, earrings, signet rings and pendants, every kind of gold object. Everyone who dedicated gold to the LORD as a wave offering brought it.c 23And whatever blue, purple and scarlet yarn, fine linen, goats’ hair, rams’ skins dyed red and fine leather people had, they brought. 24Those who set aside silver or bronze brought it as a contribution for the LORD. People who had acacia wood that would serve for any of the work brought that as well. 25All the women who were wise of heart spun by hand, and they brought in the blue, purple and scarlet yarn and the fine linen they had spun. 26All the women whose hearts stirred them to use their skill spun the goats’ hair. 27The leaders brought the onyx stones and the other stones to be set in the ephod and the breastpiece, 28and the spices and the oil for the lamps, for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense. 29The Israelites, every man and every woman whose heart moved them to give toward any of the work the LORD had commanded through Moses, brought it to the LORD as a freewill offering.
Skilled workers for the sanctuary
30Then Moses said to the Israelites, “Take note: the LORD has chosen Bezalel by name, the son of Uri, son of Hur, from the tribe of Judah, 31and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, so that he has wisdom, understanding and knowledge in every kind of work, 32to think out artistic designs and to carry them out in gold, silver and bronze, 33to cut stones for mounting, to carve wood, and to do every kind of artistic work. 34He has also given the ability to teach to Bezalel and to Oholiab son of Ahisamach, from the tribe of Dan. 35He has filled them with wisdom of heart to carry out every task of the engraver, of the designer, of the embroiderer in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and of the weaver. They can do every kind of work and think out artistic designs.d
