Gog comes from the north
1The word of the LORD came to me: 2Son of man, turn to face Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, from the land of Magog, and prophesy against him.ab 3Say, The Lord GOD says this: I am against you, Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. 4I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and lead you out with all your army, your horses and your horsemen, every one of them fully armed, a great company with shields large and small, all of them carrying swords. 5Persia, Cush and Put are with them, all with shield and helmet. 6Gomer with all its troops, and Beth-togarmah from the farthest north with all its troops. Many peoples are with you. 7Get ready and be prepared, you and all the forces gathered around you, and take command of them. 8After many days you will be called up. In the latter years you will invade a land that has recovered from war, whose people have been brought together out of many nations onto the mountains of Israel, which had lain in ruins for a long time. They were brought out from the nations, and now they all live in safety. 9You will advance like a storm and come like a cloud covering the land, you and all your troops and the many peoples with you.
Gog’s evil plan
10The Lord GOD says this: On that day thoughts will rise in your mind, and you will make a wicked plan. 11You will say, “I will attack a land of unwalled villages. I will come against a peaceful people living in safety, all of them living without walls, with no bars or gates,” 12in order to seize plunder and loot, to turn your hand against the resettled ruins and against the people gathered from the nations, who have gained livestock and goods and who live at the center of the world.c 13Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish with all its young lions will ask you, “Have you come to take plunder? Have you gathered your army to carry off loot, to take away silver and gold, livestock and goods, and to seize a great haul?”d
14Therefore prophesy, son of man, and say to Gog, The Lord GOD says this: On that day, when my people Israel are living in safety, will you not take notice?e 15You will come from your home in the far north, you and many nations with you, all of them on horseback, a great horde and a mighty army. 16Like a cloud covering the land, you will advance on my people Israel. In the latter days I will bring you against my land, Gog, so that the nations come to know me when through you I show myself holy before their eyes.
The LORD shows his greatness
17The Lord GOD says this: Are you not the one I spoke about in days long past through my servants the prophets of Israel? In those days they prophesied for years that I would bring you against them.f
18But on that day, when Gog attacks the land of Israel, declares the Lord GOD, my wrath will blaze up in my anger. 19In my jealousy and in my blazing wrath I declare that a great earthquake will strike the land of Israel on that day. 20The fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the wild animals, every creature that creeps along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will quake before my. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will collapse, and every wall will crumble to the ground. 21On all my mountains I will call for a sword against Gog, declares the Lord GOD. Every soldier’s sword will be turned against his comrade. 22I will bring him to judgment with plague and bloodshed. I will pour down on him, on his troops and on the many peoples with him torrents of rain, hailstones, fire and burning sulfur. 23So I will show myself great and holy, and I will make myself known before many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
