Thirsting for God in a dry land
1A psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. 2God, you are my God, and I search hard for you. \q My whole self thirsts for you; my body aches for you \q in a dry and worn-out land with no water. 3So I have gazed on you in the holy place \q and seen your might and your glory. 4Your loyal love is worth more than life, \q so my lips will sing your praise. 5So I will bless you all my life; \q I will raise my hands as I call on your name. 6I will be filled as with a feast of rich food, \q and with shouts of joy on my lips my mouth will sing your praise. 7When I call you to mind as I lie in bed, \q I muse on you through the hours of the night. 8You have come to my help, \q and under the shadow of your wings I sing out for joy. 9I hold fast to you; \q your right hand keeps me safe. 10But those who hunt my life to ruin it \q will sink into the lowest places of the earth. 11The sword will have them in its grip, \q and jackals will take them as their share. 12But the king will find his joy in God; \q all who take their oaths in his name will celebrate, \q while liars will have their mouths shut.
