Help against the foe after defeat

1For the music director. On shushan eduth. A miktam of David, for teaching, 2when he fought against Aram-naharaim and Aram-zobah, and Joab came back and struck down twelve thousand of Edom in the Valley of Salt. 3God, you have thrown us off and burst through our walls. \q You have been angry; turn to us again! 4You made the land shudder and tore it apart; \q mend its cracks, for it is giving way. 5You let your people see hard things; \q you made us drink a wine that sent us reeling. 6For those who fear you, you have raised a banner to rally to, \q out of reach of the bow. Selah 7So that those you love may be set free, \q bring rescue with your right hand and answer me! 8God has spoken from his holy place: “I will rejoice \q as I share out Shechem \q and mark off the Valley of Succoth. 9Gilead belongs to me, Manasseh is mine; \q Ephraim is the helmet on my head, \q Judah the staff of my rule. 10Moab is my washing bowl; \q on Edom I toss my sandal; \q Philistia, raise your shout to me!” 11Who will take me into the walled city? \q Who will guide me all the way to Edom? 12Is it not you, God, who rejected us \q and no longer march out with our armies? 13Help us against the enemy, \q for any rescue that people can bring is useless. 14With God on our side we will fight with courage; \q he is the one who will crush our foes underfoot.
