Ordaining the priests

1Here is what you are to do to consecrate them as my priests: take one young bull and two rams with no defect, 2and unleavened bread, with unleavened loaves that have oil mixed in and thin unleavened wafers spread with oil. Use fine wheat flour for all of them. 3Place them all in a single basket and present them in it, along with the bull and the two rams. 4Next, have Aaron and his sons come forward to the doorway of the tent of meeting, and bathe them with water. 5Then take the priestly garments and put them on Aaron: the tunic, the robe that goes under the ephod, the ephod, and the breastpiece. Tie the ephod around him with its woven band. 6Place the turban on his head and fasten the holy crown to the turban. 7Then take the anointing oil and pour it over his head. In this way you will anoint him. 8Then bring his sons forward and dress them in tunics, 9and tie sashes around them, both Aaron and his sons, and fit caps on their heads. The priesthood will belong to them by a statute for all time. And you will ordain Aaron and his sons. 10Lead the bull to the front of the tent of meeting, where Aaron and his sons are to place their hands on its head. 11Slaughter the bull there before the LORD, at the doorway of the tent of meeting. 12With your finger, smear some of the bull’s blood on the horns of the altar, and pour out all the rest beside the altar’s base. 13Remove all the fat that covers the inner parts, the lobe that sits on the liver, and the two kidneys together with their fat, and turn them into smoke on the altar. 14As for the bull’s meat, its hide and its dung, burn them in a fire outside the camp. It is a sin offering. 15Next take the first ram. Aaron and his sons are to rest their hands on the ram’s head. 16Kill the ram, collect its blood, and throw it against the altar on all sides. 17Divide the ram into its pieces. Wash its insides and its legs, and set them beside its pieces and its head. 18Send up the whole ram in smoke from the altar as a burnt offering to the LORD. It is an offering by fire to the LORD, with an aroma that pleases him. 19Then take the other ram, and Aaron and his sons are to rest their hands on its head. 20Kill this ram and take some of its blood. Put the blood on Aaron’s right earlobe and on the right earlobes of his sons, on the thumbs of their right hands and the big toes of their right feet. Throw the rest of the blood against the altar all around. 21Then take a little of the blood on the altar and of the anointing oil, and spatter it on Aaron and his garments, and on his sons and their garments as well. In this way Aaron, his sons, and the garments they all wear will become holy. 22Take the fat of this ram, its fat tail, the fat that covers the inner parts, the lobe of the liver, the two kidneys and the fat around them, and the right thigh, because this ram is the ram of ordination, 23along with one round loaf of bread, one loaf made with oil, and one wafer from the basket of unleavened bread that stands before the LORD. 24Set all of it on the open hands of Aaron and his sons, and present it to the LORD with a waving motion as a wave offering. 25Afterward take these from their hands and send them up in smoke on the altar, on top of the burnt offering, as an aroma pleasing to the LORD. This is an offering by fire to the LORD. 26Then take the breast from the ram used to ordain Aaron, and present it to the LORD as a wave offering. That piece is to be your share. 27Consecrate the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution, the parts of the ram of ordination that were waved and lifted up, the share that belongs to Aaron and his sons. 28This will be the lasting share that Aaron and his sons receive from the Israelites. It is a contribution: whenever the Israelites sacrifice fellowship offerings, this part is their contribution to the LORD. 29The holy garments made for Aaron are to go to his sons after him. They will wear them when they are anointed and ordained. 30For seven days they are to be worn by whichever of his sons becomes priest in his place, when he enters the tent of meeting to serve in the holy place. 31As for the ram of ordination, boil its meat in a holy place. 32Aaron and his sons are to eat the ram’s meat, with the bread remaining in the basket, there at the doorway of the tent of meeting. 33The things that were used to make atonement for them, when they were ordained and made holy, are food for them to eat. An outsider must not eat any of it, since it is holy. 34Should any of the ordination meat or the bread remain until morning, you must burn whatever is left. No one may eat it; it is holy. 35Carry out for Aaron and his sons everything exactly as I have commanded you. Spend seven days ordaining them. 36Every day you are to offer a bull as a sin offering for atonement. You will cleanse the altar from sin as you make atonement for it, and you will anoint the altar so that it is consecrated. 37Seven days in a row you are to make atonement for the altar and consecrate it, and so it will become most holy. Anything that comes into contact with the altar will become holy.

The regular burnt offering

38Here is what you will offer on the altar day by day, without fail: two lambs in their first year. 39One lamb you are to offer in the morning, and the second as evening falls. 40Along with the one lamb, there is to be about 2 quarts of fine flour mixed with about 1 quart of pure pressed olive oil, and for a drink offering, about 1 quart of wine. 41The second lamb you will offer as evening falls. Prepare with it a grain offering and a drink offering like those of the morning, an offering by fire to the LORD whose aroma pleases him. 42This is to be the regular burnt offering, generation after generation, at the doorway of the tent of meeting before the LORD. That is where I will meet with you, to speak to you. 43There I will meet with the Israelites, and my glory will make the tent holy. 44The tent of meeting and the altar I will make holy, and Aaron and his sons I will set apart as holy to serve me as priests. 45I will make my home among the Israelites, and I will be their God. 46Then they will know that I am the LORD their God. I brought them out of the land of Egypt for this purpose, to make my home among them. I am the LORD their God.
