The river of the water of life

1He showed me a river of the water of life, shining like crystal, which flows out from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2through the middle of the city’s street. On both banks of the river is the tree of life, which bears fruit twelve times, giving its fruit month by month, and its leaves bring healing to the nations. 3Nothing accursed will be found there any longer. God’s throne, and the Lamb’s, will stand in the city, and his servants will offer him worship; 4they will look upon his face, and his name will be written on their foreheads. 5Night will be no more, and they will need neither the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will be their light; and they will reign forever and ever.

I am coming soon

6He said to me, “These words can be trusted, and they are true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants the things that must happen soon. 7Look, I am coming soon! How blessed is the one who holds on to the words of the prophecy in this scroll!”

8It was I, John, who heard and saw all this. Having heard and seen them, I threw myself down to worship at the feet of the angel who was showing them to me. 9“No!” he told me. “I am God’s servant, as you are, and as your brothers and sisters the prophets are, and all who keep the words of this scroll. Worship God!”

10He also told me, “Keep the words of the prophecy in this scroll unsealed, for the time is close. 11Whoever does wrong, let them keep on doing wrong; whoever is filthy, let them keep on being filthy; whoever is righteous, let them keep on doing righteousness; whoever is holy, let them keep on being holy.”

12“Look, I come soon, and I bring my reward with me, to pay back each person for what they have done. 13I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.

14How blessed are those who wash their robes! The tree of life will be theirs by right, and through the gates they will enter the city. 15Left outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and all who love a lie and live it.

16I, Jesus, sent my angel to bear witness to you of these things for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the bright morning star.” 17The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And whoever hears should say, “Come!” Whoever is thirsty should come; whoever wants it should take the water of life, free of charge.

18To everyone who hears the words of the prophecy in this scroll I bear witness: if anyone adds to them, God will add to them the plagues written in this scroll. 19And anyone who removes words from the scroll of this prophecy, God will remove their part in the tree of life and in the holy city that this scroll describes.

20The one who testifies to all this says, “Yes, I am coming soon!”

Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!

21May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with everyone.
