A prayer from the cave
1A maskil of David, when he was in the cave. A prayer. 2I call out loud to the LORD; I raise my voice to the LORD, pleading for mercy. 3I spill out my complaint in front of him; I tell him all about my distress. 4When my spirit is fading within me, you are the one who knows my path. Along the road I travel they have hidden a trap for me. 5Look to my right and see: there is no one who knows me. Every way of escape is gone; nobody looks out for me. 6I cry out to you, LORD. I say, “You are my shelter, all I have in the land of the living.” 7Pay heed to my cry, because I am in the depths. Rescue me from those who hunt me, since they are stronger than I am. 8Lead me out of this prison, so that I may thank your name. Then the righteous will crowd around me, because you will treat me with goodness.
