The boaster and the olive tree
1For the music director. A maskil of David, 2when Doeg the Edomite went and informed Saul, telling him, “David has gone to Ahimelech’s house.” 3Why brag about evil, you mighty warrior? \q God’s loyal love goes on all day long.a 4Your tongue devises ruin; \q it cuts like a honed razor, you schemer of lies. 5You prefer evil to good, \q and a lie to an honest word. Selah 6You love every word that devours, \q you lying tongue. 7But God will bring you down for good; \q he will seize you and drag you out of your tent, \q and pull you up by the roots from the land of the living. Selah 8The righteous will see it and be filled with awe; \q they will laugh at him and say, 9“Look at the man who would not take God as his fortress! \q He relied on his great wealth \q and looked for safety in the ruin he caused.” 10I, though, am like an olive tree in full leaf in God’s house; \q I rely on God’s loyal love forever and ever. 11I will thank you forever for what you have done; \q before your loyal people I will wait in hope on your name, \q because it is good.
