A king and priest forever
1Of David. A psalm. The LORD declares to my lord: “Take your seat at my right hand, while I lay your enemies beneath your feet like a footstool.” 2From Zion the LORD will stretch out the scepter of your power: rule where your enemies surround you! 3Your people offer themselves gladly on the day you march out in strength, in splendor and holiness. Out of the dawn’s womb your youth comes to you fresh as the dew.ab 4The LORD has taken an oath and will not take it back: “You are a priest for all time, after the pattern of Melchizedek.” 5The Lord stands at your right side, and when the day of his anger comes, he shatters kings. 6He passes judgment on the nations, and the dead lie everywhere; he crushes the leaders over the wide earth. 7On the way he drinks from a stream, and so he stands with his head held high.
