The stone the builders cast aside
1Give the LORD thanks, for he is good; his loyal love lasts forever. 2Let Israel say it now: “His loyal love lasts forever.” 3Let the house of Aaron say it now: “His loyal love lasts forever.” 4Let those who fear the LORD say it now: “His loyal love lasts forever.” 5When I was hemmed in I called to the LORD; the LORD answered me by bringing me out into open space. 6With the LORD for me, I have no fear. What can any human being do to me? 7The LORD is with me as my helper, and I will see the downfall of those who hate me. 8It is better to make the LORD your refuge than to rely on human beings. 9It is better to make the LORD your refuge than to rely on princes. 10All the nations closed in around me; in the name of the LORD I drove them back. 11They closed in around me, yes, they closed in on every side; in the name of the LORD I drove them back. 12They came at me like a swarm of bees, but they burned out like a fire in thornbushes; in the name of the LORD I drove them back.a 13You shoved me hard to make me fall, but the LORD came to my help. 14The LORD is my strength and the theme of my song; he has come to my rescue. 15The tents of the righteous ring with glad shouts of rescue: “The right hand of the LORD acts with power! 16The right hand of the LORD is raised in triumph; the right hand of the LORD acts with power!” 17I am not going to die; I will live and tell what the LORD has done. 18The LORD disciplined me hard, yet he did not let death take me. 19Open the gates of righteousness for me, so I may go in and thank the LORD. 20This is the LORD’s gate; those who are righteous may pass through it. 21I thank you that you answered me and became my salvation. 22The stone the builders cast aside is now the stone at the head of the corner. 23This has come from the LORD; we look on it with wonder. 24This is the day on which the LORD has acted; let us celebrate and be glad because of it. 25LORD, we beg you, save us! LORD, we beg you, give us success! 26Blessings on the one who comes in the LORD’s name! Out of the LORD’s house we speak a blessing over you. 27The LORD is God; he has given us light. Tie the festival offering with ropes and bring it right to the altar’s horns.b 28You are my God, so I will thank you; I will exalt you, my God. 29Give the LORD thanks, for he is good; his loyal love lasts forever.
