Wait quietly for God alone
1For the music director. According to Jeduthun. A psalm of David. 2I am quiet before God alone; my rescue comes from him. 3Only he is my rock who saves me, my high fortress; I will not be badly shaken. 4How long will you all rush at one man to batter him down, as if he were a leaning wall, a fence about to fall?a 5Their only plan is to bring him down from his high place; they love what is false. Their lips speak blessing while inside they curse. Selah 6Be still before God alone, my soul, for he is the source of my hope. 7Only he is my rock who saves me, my high fortress; I will not be shaken. 8On God rest my rescue and my honor; the rock of my strength and my shelter are in God. 9People, rely on him in every season; empty your hearts out before him. God is our shelter. Selah 10Ordinary people are only a breath, and the great are a lie; put on the scales, they rise; all together they weigh less than a breath. 11Do not lean on what you gain by force, or let robbery fill you with empty hopes; if wealth multiplies, do not give your heart to it. 12God has spoken one thing, and I have heard it twice over: that strength is God’s, 13and to you, Lord, belongs loyal love; for you pay all people back for what they have done.
