The gold lampstand and the two olive trees
1Then the angel who talked with me came back and woke me, as someone is woken from sleep. 2He asked me, “What do you see?” I answered, “I see a lampstand made entirely of gold, with a bowl at the top. There are seven lamps on it, and each of the lamps at the top has seven spouts.a 3And there are two olive trees beside it, one on the right of the bowl and one on its left.” 4I asked the angel who talked with me, “My lord, what are these?” 5The angel who talked with me answered, “Do you not know what these are?” “No, my lord,” I replied. 6Then he told me, “Here is the word of the LORD for Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of Armies.b 7What are you, great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground. He will bring out the top stone while people shout, “Grace, grace to it!”’”c
Zerubbabel will finish the house
8Then the word of the LORD came to me: 9Zerubbabel’s hands have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will bring it to completion. Then you will know that the LORD of Armies has sent me to you. 10Who has despised the day of small beginnings? People will rejoice when they see the plumb stone in Zerubbabel’s hand. These seven are the eyes of the LORD, which range over the whole earth.de 11Then I asked him, “What are these two olive trees to the right and left of the lampstand?” 12I asked him again, “What are the two branches of the olive trees beside the two gold pipes that pour out the golden oil?” 13He said to me, “Do you not know what these are?” “No, my lord,” I answered. 14So he said, “These are the two anointed ones who stand beside the Lord of all the earth.”f
