The word of the LORD to Hosea

1The LORD’s word came to Hosea son of Beeri during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah over Judah, and during the reign of Jeroboam son of Joash over Israel. 2When the LORD first spoke through Hosea, the LORD said to him, “Go, marry a promiscuous wife and have children born of promiscuity, for the land is wholly given to prostitution; it has turned away from following the LORD.” 3So Hosea went and married Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she became pregnant and bore him a son. 4Then the LORD said to him, “Name him Jezreel, for in a little while I will punish the house of Jehu for the blood shed at Jezreel, and I will bring the kingdom of the house of Israel to an end. 5On that day I will break Israel’s bow in the valley of Jezreel.” 6Gomer became pregnant again and gave birth to a daughter. Then the LORD said to Hosea, “Name her No Compassion, for I will no longer show compassion to the house of Israel or forgive them in any way. 7But I will show compassion to the house of Judah, and I will save them by the LORD their God. I will not save them by bow or sword or battle, or by horses and horsemen.” 8After Gomer had weaned No Compassion, she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. 9Then the LORD said, “Name him Not My People, because you are not my people, and I will not be yours.”
