He has been raised

1After the Sabbath had passed, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome purchased spices so that they could go and anoint his body. 2On the first day of the week, very early, when the sun had come up, they came to the tomb. 3They had been asking each other, “Who is going to roll the stone back from the entrance to the tomb for us?” 4When they looked up, they could see the stone had already been rolled away, and it was a huge stone. 5On entering the tomb they found a young man seated on the right, wearing a white robe, and they were stunned. 6But he told them, “Do not be alarmed. You have come looking for Jesus from Nazareth, the one who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, this is the place where they laid him. 7But go and tell his disciples, and Peter too, that he is going on ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there, as he said to you.” 8They went out and ran from the tomb, trembling and beside themselves. And they told no one anything, for they were afraid.

The shorter ending

They gave Peter and those with him a short report of all they had been told. After this Jesus himself sent out through them, from east to west, the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation. Amen.

The longer ending: Jesus appears

9After he had risen, early in the morning of the first day of the week, he showed himself first to Mary Magdalene. It was from her that he had thrown out seven demons. 10She went and brought the news to the people who had been with him, who were grieving and weeping. 11But on hearing that he was alive and that she had seen him, they would not believe it.

12After that he appeared to two of them in a different form, as they were walking along on their way into the country. 13These two went back and told the others, but they did not believe them either.

14Later he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were eating. He rebuked them for their unbelief and their stubborn hearts, because they had not believed those who had seen him risen. 15He told them, “Go out into the whole world and announce the gospel to all of creation. 16Whoever has believed and been baptized will be saved; anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. 17These signs will go with those who believe: they will throw out demons in my name and speak in new tongues; 18they will lift up snakes; if they swallow any deadly poison, it will do them no harm; they will put their hands on those who are sick, and the sick will get better.”

Taken up into heaven

19So the Lord Jesus, when he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God. 20And they went out and proclaimed the message everywhere. The Lord worked with them and confirmed the word by the signs that came with it.
