The life of one who fears the LORD

1Praise the LORD! How blessed are all who fear the LORD, whose great delight is in his commands! 2Their descendants will be powerful in the land, for the family of the upright is blessed. 3Their houses are full of wealth and riches, and their righteousness stands for all time. 4When darkness falls, a light shines out for the upright: they are gracious, full of compassion, and righteous. 5Things go well for people who are kind and lend to others, and who handle their dealings with justice. 6They will never be overthrown; the righteous will be remembered for all time. 7Bad news does not frighten them; their hearts stand firm because they trust in the LORD. 8Their hearts are held steady and they will not be afraid, until they see what becomes of their enemies. 9They have given generously, spreading their gifts among the needy; their righteousness stands for all time, and their strength will rise in honor. 10The wicked see it and are galled; they grind their teeth and melt away; what the wicked long for is lost.
