Longing for the LORD’s house
1For the music director. On the gittith. Of the sons of Korah. A psalm. 2How deeply loved is your dwelling place, LORD of Armies! 3My whole being longs, even aches, for the courts of the LORD; heart and body, I shout with joy to the living God. 4The sparrow, too, has found itself a home, and the swallow has a nest where it keeps its young, beside your altars, LORD of Armies, my King and my God. 5How blessed are the ones who live in your house; they never stop praising you. Selah 6How blessed are people who find their strength in you and fix their hearts on the pilgrim highways.a 7When they travel through the Baca Valley, they make it a land of springs; the early rain wraps it in blessings.b 8They walk on from strength to strength, till every one of them comes before God in Zion. 9LORD God of Armies, hear my prayer; turn your ear to me, God of Jacob! Selah 10God, see our shield; look with care on the face of your anointed one.c 11Truly, one day spent in your courts is worth more than a thousand anywhere else; I would choose to stand at the threshold of my God’s house over living in the tents of wicked people. 12For the LORD God is both sun and shield; the LORD gives favor and honor; from those who walk blamelessly he keeps back nothing good. 13LORD of Armies, how blessed is anyone who trusts in you!
