A guard over my mouth
1A psalm of David. LORD, I am calling to you; come to me quickly. Hear my voice as I cry out to you. 2Let my prayer stand before you like incense, my lifted hands like the offering at evening. 3LORD, station a guard at my mouth; keep a sentry at the doorway of my lips. 4Keep my heart from leaning toward anything evil, from joining with wrongdoers in their wicked acts; let me not share their rich food. 5Let a righteous person strike me: that is loyal love. Let them reprove me: that is oil for my head, and may my head never refuse it. But all the while I pray against the evil they do.a 6When their rulers are flung down the face of the cliff, people will hear my words and know that they were kind. 7Like clods when the ground is plowed and broken open, our bones lie scattered at the mouth of Sheol. 8But my eyes look to you, Lord GOD; I make you my refuge. Do not let my life be poured out. 9Guard me from the grip of the trap they have set for me, from the snares of those who do wrong. 10May the wicked be caught together in their own nets, while I make my way past.
