Aaron and his sons are ordained
1The LORD spoke to Moses. He said, 2“Take Aaron, and his sons with him. Take also the garments, the anointing oil, the bull for the sin offering, the two rams, and the basket of bread made without yeast. 3Then call the whole congregation together at the entrance of the tent of meeting.” 4Moses followed the LORD’s command, and the congregation gathered at the entrance of the tent of meeting. 5Moses said to the congregation, “What you are about to see done is what the LORD has commanded.” 6Moses had Aaron and his sons come forward, and he washed them with water. 7He put the tunic on Aaron and tied the sash around his waist. He dressed him in the robe and put the ephod over it, then tied the ephod’s woven band around him, and so fastened the ephod on him. 8Over it he set the breastpiece, and inside the breastpiece he placed the Urim and the Thummim.a 9He set the turban on Aaron’s head, and on the front of the turban he fixed the gold plate, the holy crown, just as the LORD had commanded Moses. 10Moses then took the anointing oil. He anointed the tabernacle and all that it held, and consecrated them. 11He sprinkled some of the oil seven times on the altar, and anointed the altar with all its utensils, and the basin with its stand, to consecrate them. 12He poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head, anointing him to consecrate him. 13Then Moses had Aaron’s sons come forward. He dressed them in tunics, tied sashes around their waists, and fastened caps on their heads, just as the LORD had commanded Moses. 14He led up the bull for the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head. 15Moses slaughtered it, took the blood, and with his finger put some on each of the horns of the altar all around, purifying the altar. He poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. So he consecrated it, to make atonement for it. 16He took all the fat on the internal organs, the long lobe of the liver, and both kidneys with their fat, and Moses burned them on the altar. 17But the bull, with its hide, its meat and its dung, he burned up outside the camp, just as the LORD had commanded Moses. 18Then he brought forward the ram for the burnt offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head. 19Moses slaughtered it and splashed the blood against all sides of the altar. 20He cut the ram into its pieces, and Moses burned the head, the pieces and the fat. 21He washed the internal organs and the legs in water, and Moses burned the whole ram on the altar. It was a burnt offering with a soothing aroma, a food offering to the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded Moses. 22Next he brought forward the other ram, the ram of ordination, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head.b 23Moses slaughtered it and took some of its blood. He put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear, on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot. 24Then he had Aaron’s sons come forward, and Moses put some of the blood on the lobes of their right ears, on the thumbs of their right hands and on the big toes of their right feet. And Moses splashed the blood against all sides of the altar. 25He took the fat: the fat tail, all the fat on the internal organs, the long lobe of the liver, both kidneys with their fat, and also the right thigh. 26From the basket of bread made without yeast that stood before the LORD he took one loaf made without yeast, one loaf made with oil, and one wafer, and laid them on the fat portions and on the right thigh. 27He put all of this in the hands of Aaron and his sons and waved it before the LORD as a wave offering. 28Then Moses took them back from their hands and burned them on the altar on top of the burnt offering. They were an ordination offering with a soothing aroma, a food offering to the LORD. 29Moses took the breast and waved it before the LORD as a wave offering. It was Moses’ own share of the ram of ordination, just as the LORD had commanded Moses. 30Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood on the altar and sprinkled it on Aaron and his garments, and on his sons and their garments. In this way he consecrated Aaron and his garments, and his sons and their garments with him. 31Moses told Aaron and his sons, “Boil the meat at the entrance of the tent of meeting and eat it there, with the bread that is in the ordination basket, as I commanded when I said, ‘Aaron and his sons are to eat it.’c 32Whatever is left of the meat and the bread you must burn up. 33Stay at the entrance of the tent of meeting and do not leave it for seven days, until the time of your ordination is over. It will take seven days for you to be ordained. 34What has been done today, the LORD has commanded to be done again, to make atonement for you.d 35Remain at the entrance of the tent of meeting day and night for seven days, and keep the watch the LORD has given you, so that you will not die. This is the command I have received.” 36Aaron and his sons carried out everything the LORD had commanded through Moses.
