A prayer at daybreak
1For the music director. For flutes. A psalm of David. 2LORD, hear what I say; take note of my sighs. 3Listen to me crying for help, my King and my God, because it is to you that I pray. 4LORD, at daybreak you hear my voice. At daybreak I set everything out before you and keep watch. 5For you are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness; evil cannot be your guest. 6Those who boast cannot stand in your sight; you hate all who practice evil. 7You bring liars to ruin. The LORD loathes those who shed blood and deceive. 8But I, because your loyal love is so great, will come into your house; in awe of you I will bow down toward your holy temple. 9LORD, guide me in your righteousness, because my enemies are watching; level your road in front of me. 10Not one thing they say is reliable; deep inside them is only ruin. Their throats are graves left open, and their tongues are smooth with flattery. 11Hold them to account, God! Let them be tripped up by their own schemes. Thrust them away for all their many crimes, since it is against you that they have rebelled. 12But let everyone who makes you their refuge be glad and sing for joy forever. Keep them under your cover, and those who love your name will find their joy in you. 13For you bless the righteous, LORD; your favor surrounds them like a great shield.
