Taste and see the LORD’s goodness

1Of David, when he pretended to be insane in front of Abimelech, who drove him away, and he left. 2I will bless the LORD in every season; praise of him will never leave my mouth. 3I will make my boast in the LORD; let the humble hear it and rejoice. 4Join me in telling how great the LORD is; let us lift high his name together. 5I went looking for the LORD; he gave me an answer and rescued me from everything I dreaded. 6Those who look to him glow with joy, and no shame will darken their faces. 7Here was a poor man who cried out; the LORD heard and rescued him from every one of his troubles. 8The angel of the LORD pitches camp all around the people who fear him, and sets them free. 9Taste and see how good the LORD is! How blessed is the person who makes him their refuge! 10Fear the LORD, all you his people set apart; nothing is missing for those who fear him. 11Even young lions can go short and feel hunger, but those who seek the LORD will never be without anything good. 12Come here, children, and hear what I say; I will teach you what it means to fear the LORD. 13Which of you wants life and longs for many days to enjoy good things? 14Hold your tongue back from evil, and keep your lips from saying anything false. 15Turn away from evil and do what is good; look for peace and go after it. 16The LORD keeps his eyes on the righteous and his ears open to their call for help. 17The LORD turns his face against people who do evil, to erase every trace of them from the earth. 18When the righteous cry out, the LORD listens and frees them from every trouble they face. 19The LORD stays close to those whose hearts are broken, and rescues those whose spirits are crushed. 20A righteous person faces many troubles, but the LORD brings them safely through every one. 21He watches over their whole body; not a single bone will be broken. 22The wicked will be killed by their own evil; whoever hates the righteous will bear the guilt. 23The LORD ransoms the lives of his servants; none who make him their refuge will bear guilt.
