Into your hand I commit my spirit

1For the music director. A psalm of David. 2LORD, I have made you my refuge; never let me be disgraced; because you are righteous, set me free. 3Bend down and listen to me; hurry to rescue me. Be a rock where I can shelter, a fortified house that keeps me safe. 4You yourself are my rock and my stronghold; for the honor of your name you will lead me and show me the way. 5You will free me from the net they have secretly laid for me, because you are my stronghold. 6I put my spirit into your hand for safekeeping; you have redeemed me, LORD, God who is faithful. 7I hate those who devote themselves to useless idols; but my trust is in the LORD. 8I will be full of joy and delight because of your loyal love, for you saw how I suffered and took notice of the troubles I was in. 9You did not give me up into the power of my enemy; you have set my feet down in a wide-open place. 10Have pity on me, LORD, for I am in trouble; grief has worn out my eyes, my whole self, my body. 11Sorrow is using up my life, and groaning my years; my guilt has made my strength give way, and my bones are wasting. 12All my enemies have made me a disgrace, above all to my neighbors; the people I know are afraid of me, and when they see me outside they run from me. 13People have put me out of their minds as if I had died; I am like a smashed pot. 14I hear many people whispering lies — terror everywhere! — as they plan together against me, scheming to take my life. 15But I put my trust in you, LORD; I tell you, “You alone are my God.” 16My whole life, every season of it, is in your hand; rescue me from the power of my enemies and from those chasing me. 17Turn the light of your face toward your servant; in your loyal love, save me. 18LORD, do not let me be disgraced, for I have called to you; let the disgrace fall on the wicked; let them lie silent in Sheol. 19May the lips that lie be struck dumb, lips that speak insolently against the righteous with pride and scorn. 20How great is the good you keep in store for those who fear you, the good you do, for all to see, to those who make you their refuge! 21You hide them under the cover of your presence, away from human plotting; you keep them in a shelter, safe from quarrelsome tongues. 22Blessed is the LORD, who has done a wonder of loyal love for me when I was in a city under siege. 23In my panic I said, “I have been cut off, out of your sight.” Yet you heard my voice as I pleaded for mercy and cried out to you. 24Love the LORD, all you who are loyal to him! The LORD watches over those who keep faith, but the one who acts proudly he repays in full measure. 25Stand firm and be brave in heart, all of you who put your hope in the LORD.
