A prayer from a bed of tears
1For the music director. With stringed instruments, on the sheminith. A psalm of David. 2LORD, when you correct me, do not do it in anger; when you discipline me, do not do it in your fury. 3Show me grace, LORD, for I am wasting away; heal me, LORD, for my very bones are shaking. 4My soul is shaken to its depths. But you, LORD, how long? 5Turn back to me, LORD, and set my life free; save me because your love is loyal. 6For in death no one calls you to mind. Who gives you thanks down in Sheol? 7I am exhausted from groaning. Night after night my bed swims with my tears, and my couch dissolves in them. 8Grief has dimmed my eyes; they have aged because of all who oppose me. 9Get away from me, all who practice evil, for the LORD has heard me weeping. 10The LORD has heard me beg for his grace; the LORD welcomes my prayer. 11All my enemies will be put to shame and filled with terror; they will turn back, suddenly disgraced.
