Pure words in a time of lies
1For the music director. On the sheminith. A psalm of David. 2Save us, LORD! The faithful are no more; no one you can trust is left among humankind. 3People tell each other lies; their lips are smooth with flattery, their hearts are divided. 4May the LORD cut off every flattering lip and every tongue that boasts so loudly, 5those who say, “Our tongues will win the day; our lips are our own. Who can be master over us?” 6“The poor are being robbed and the needy are groaning, so now I will get up,” says the LORD. “I will bring them to the safety they long for.”a 7The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a clay furnace, purified seven times over. 8You, LORD, will watch over them; you will protect each of them from this generation forever. 9On every side the wicked prowl, while what is vile is prized among people.
