  1. ዘካርያስ 1:1

In the eighth month of the second year of Darius’s reign, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah the prophet, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo:

  2. ዘካርያስ 1:2

The LORD was very angry with your ancestors.

  3. ዘካርያስ 1:3

So tell them, “The LORD of Armies says this: Return to me, declares the LORD of Armies, and I will return to you, says the LORD of Armies.”

  4. ዘካርያስ 1:4

Do not be like your ancestors, to whom the earlier prophets called out, “The LORD of Armies says this: Turn back from your evil ways and your evil deeds.” But they would not listen or pay attention to me, declares the LORD.

  5. ዘካርያስ 1:6

But my words and my decrees, the ones I commanded my servants the prophets to speak, did they not catch up with your ancestors? Then they repented and said, “The LORD of Armies has dealt with us as our ways and our deeds deserved, just as he planned to do.”

  6. ዘካርያስ 1:7

On the twenty-fourth day of Shebat, the eleventh month, in the second year of Darius’s reign, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah the prophet, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo:

  7. ዘካርያስ 1:10

Then the man standing among the myrtle trees explained, “These are the ones the LORD has sent to patrol the earth.”

  8. ዘካርያስ 1:11

They reported to the angel of the LORD, who stood among the myrtle trees: “We have patrolled the whole earth, and all of it is still and at rest.”

  9. ዘካርያስ 1:12

Then the angel of the LORD said, “LORD of Armies, how long will you hold back your compassion from Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, which you have been angry with these seventy years?”

  10. ዘካርያስ 1:13

And the LORD answered the angel who talked with me with good and comforting words.

  11. ዘካርያስ 1:14

Then the angel who talked with me said to me, “Proclaim this: ‘The LORD of Armies says this: I am deeply jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion.

  12. ዘካርያስ 1:16

Therefore the LORD says this: I have returned to Jerusalem with compassion. My house will be rebuilt in it, declares the LORD of Armies, and a measuring line will be stretched out over Jerusalem.’

  13. ዘካርያስ 1:17

Proclaim this as well: ‘The LORD of Armies says this: My cities will once again overflow with prosperity, and the LORD will again comfort Zion and again choose Jerusalem.’”

  14. ዘካርያስ 2:3

Then the LORD showed me four craftsmen.

  15. ዘካርያስ 2:9

And I myself will be a wall of fire around her, declares the LORD, and I will be the glory within her.’”

  16. ዘካርያስ 2:10

Come! Come! Flee from the land in the north, declares the LORD, for like the four winds of heaven I have scattered you, declares the LORD.

  17. ዘካርያስ 2:12

For the LORD of Armies says this, for the sake of his glory he has sent me against the nations that plundered you: whoever touches you touches the pupil of his eye.

  18. ዘካርያስ 2:13

I am about to raise my hand against them, and they will be plundered by their own slaves. Then you will know that the LORD of Armies has sent me.

  19. ዘካርያስ 2:14

Sing and rejoice, Daughter Zion, for I am coming to live among you, declares the LORD.

  20. ዘካርያስ 2:15

Many nations will join themselves to the LORD on that day and will become my people. I will live among you, and you will know that the LORD of Armies has sent me to you.

  21. ዘካርያስ 2:16

The LORD will possess Judah as his share in the holy land, and he will once again choose Jerusalem.

  22. ዘካርያስ 2:17

Be silent before the LORD, all people, for he has risen up from his holy dwelling.

  23. ዘካርያስ 3:1

Then he showed me Joshua the high priest. He stood before the angel of the LORD, and the Accuser stood at his right side to accuse him.

  24. ዘካርያስ 3:2

The LORD said to the Accuser, “May the LORD rebuke you, Accuser! May the LORD, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is this man not a burning stick snatched from the fire?”

  25. ዘካርያስ 3:5

Then I said, “Let them place a clean turban on his head.” They placed the clean turban on his head and dressed him in clothes, while the angel of the LORD stood by.

  26. ዘካርያስ 3:6

Then the angel of the LORD gave Joshua this solemn charge:

  27. ዘካርያስ 3:7

“The LORD of Armies says this: If you walk in my ways and carry out the duties I give you, then you will govern my house and take care of my courts, and I will give you a place among those who stand here.

  28. ዘካርያስ 3:9

Look at the stone I have placed before Joshua. That one stone has seven eyes. I am going to engrave an inscription on it, declares the LORD of Armies, and I will remove the guilt of that land in a single day.

  29. ዘካርያስ 3:10

On that day, declares the LORD of Armies, each of you will invite your neighbor to come and sit under your vine and your fig tree.”

  30. ዘካርያስ 4:6

Then he told me, “Here is the word of the LORD for Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of Armies.

  31. ዘካርያስ 4:8

Then the word of the LORD came to me:

  32. ዘካርያስ 4:9

Zerubbabel’s hands have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will bring it to completion. Then you will know that the LORD of Armies has sent me to you.

  33. ዘካርያስ 4:10

Who has despised the day of small beginnings? People will rejoice when they see the plumb stone in Zerubbabel’s hand. These seven are the eyes of the LORD, which range over the whole earth.

  34. ዘካርያስ 5:4

I have sent it out, declares the LORD of Armies, and it will go into the thief’s house and the house of anyone who swears falsely by my name. It will stay inside that house and destroy it, timber and stones alike.”

  35. ዘካርያስ 6:9

Then the word of the LORD came to me:

  36. ዘካርያስ 6:12

Say to him, “The LORD of Armies says this: Here is the man whose name is the Branch. He will branch out from his place, and he will build the temple of the LORD.

  37. ዘካርያስ 6:13

It is he who will build the temple of the LORD, and he will be clothed with majesty, and he will sit and rule on his throne. There will be a priest on his throne, and the two of them will be in peaceful agreement.”

  38. ዘካርያስ 6:14

The crown will be kept in the temple of the LORD as a memorial to Helem, Tobiah, Jedaiah and Hen son of Zephaniah.

  39. ዘካርያስ 6:15

People who are far away will come and help build the temple of the LORD. Then you will know that the LORD of Armies has sent me to you. All this will come about if you carefully obey the LORD your God.

  40. ዘካርያስ 7:1

In the fourth year of King Darius’s reign, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah. It was the fourth day of Kislev, the ninth month.

  41. ዘካርያስ 7:2

The people of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regem-melech and their men to seek the favor of the LORD,

  42. ዘካርያስ 7:3

and to ask the priests of the house of the LORD of Armies and the prophets, “Should I go on weeping and fasting in the fifth month, as I have done for so many years?”

  43. ዘካርያስ 7:4

Then the word of the LORD of Armies came to me:

  44. ዘካርያስ 7:7

Are these not the very words that the LORD proclaimed through the earlier prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and prosperous, along with the towns around it, and when people lived in the Negev and the Shephelah?”

  45. ዘካርያስ 7:8

Then the word of the LORD came to Zechariah:

  46. ዘካርያስ 7:9

The LORD of Armies says this: Judge with true justice. Show loyal love and compassion to one another.

  47. ዘካርያስ 7:12

They made their hearts as hard as diamond so that they would not listen to the instruction and the words that the LORD of Armies had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So great wrath came from the LORD of Armies.

  48. ዘካርያስ 7:13

Just as he called and they would not listen, so they called and I would not listen, says the LORD of Armies.

  49. ዘካርያስ 8:1

The word of the LORD of Armies came again:

  50. ዘካርያስ 8:2

The LORD of Armies says this: I am deeply jealous for Zion, and I burn with jealous anger for her sake.

  51. ዘካርያስ 8:3

The LORD says this: I have returned to Zion, and I will live in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem will be called the Faithful City, and the mountain of the LORD of Armies will be called the Holy Mountain.

  52. ዘካርያስ 8:4

The LORD of Armies says this: Once again old men and old women will sit in the squares of Jerusalem, each with a cane in hand because of their great age.

  53. ዘካርያስ 8:6

The LORD of Armies says this: It may seem too wonderful to the remnant of this people in those days, but will it seem too wonderful to me? declares the LORD of Armies.

  54. ዘካርያስ 8:7

The LORD of Armies says this: I am going to save my people from the lands of the east and from the lands of the west.

  55. ዘካርያስ 8:9

The LORD of Armies says this: Be strong, you who in these days have been hearing these words from the mouths of the prophets, who spoke when the foundation of the house of the LORD of Armies was laid so that the temple could be rebuilt.

  56. ዘካርያስ 8:11

But now I will not deal with the remnant of this people as I did in the former days, declares the LORD of Armies.

  57. ዘካርያስ 8:14

For the LORD of Armies says this: When your ancestors made me angry, I resolved to bring disaster on you and did not relent, says the LORD of Armies,

  58. ዘካርያስ 8:17

Do not plot evil in your hearts against one another, and do not love false oaths. I hate all these things, declares the LORD.

  59. ዘካርያስ 8:18

Then the word of the LORD of Armies came to me:

  60. ዘካርያስ 8:19

The LORD of Armies says this: The fasts of the fourth, fifth, seventh and tenth months will become times of joy and gladness and happy festivals for the house of Judah. So love truth and peace.

  61. ዘካርያስ 8:20

The LORD of Armies says this: Peoples will yet come, the inhabitants of many cities.

  62. ዘካርያስ 8:21

The people of one city will go to another and say, “Come, let us go at once to seek the favor of the LORD and to seek the LORD of Armies. I am going myself.”

  63. ዘካርያስ 8:22

Many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the LORD of Armies and to seek the favor of the LORD.

  64. ዘካርያስ 8:23

The LORD of Armies says this: In those days ten people from nations of every language will take hold of the edge of a Jew’s robe and say, “Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.”

  65. ዘካርያስ 9:1

An oracle. The word of the LORD is against the land of Hadrach, and Damascus is where it will come to rest; for the eye of the LORD is on all humankind and on all the tribes of Israel,

  66. ዘካርያስ 9:14

Then the LORD will appear above them, and his arrow will flash out like lightning. The Lord GOD will sound the ram’s horn and march out in the storm winds from the south.

  67. ዘካርያስ 9:15

The LORD of Armies will shield them. They will devour and trample the sling stones; they will drink and roar as if with wine. They will be filled like a sacrificial bowl, drenched like the corners of the altar.

  68. ዘካርያስ 9:16

On that day the LORD their God will save them, for they are his people, his flock. Like jewels in a crown they will sparkle over his land.

  69. ዘካርያስ 10:1

Ask the LORD for rain in the season of the spring rain. It is the LORD who makes the storm clouds; he gives them showers of rain and green plants in the field for everyone.

  70. ዘካርያስ 10:3

My anger blazes against the shepherds, and I will punish those who lead the flock; for the LORD of Armies cares for his flock, the house of Judah, and will make them like his proud war horse in battle.

  71. ዘካርያስ 10:5

They will be like warriors in battle, trampling the enemy into the mud of the streets. They will fight, since the LORD is with them, and the horsemen will be put to shame.

  72. ዘካርያስ 10:6

I will make the house of Judah strong and save the house of Joseph. I will bring them back, because I have compassion on them, and it will be as if I had never cast them off. I am the LORD their God, and I will answer them.

  73. ዘካርያስ 10:7

The people of Ephraim will be like warriors, and their hearts will be glad as if with wine. Their children will see it and be glad; their hearts will rejoice in the LORD.

  74. ዘካርያስ 10:12

I will give them strength in the LORD, and they will walk in his name, declares the LORD.

  75. ዘካርያስ 11:4

The LORD my God says this: “Shepherd the flock that is marked for slaughter,

  76. ዘካርያስ 11:5

whose buyers slaughter them and go unpunished. Those who sell them say, ‘Praise the LORD, I am rich!’ And their own shepherds show them no pity.

  77. ዘካርያስ 11:6

For I will no longer pity the people who live in the land, declares the LORD. I am about to hand everyone over to their neighbor and to their king. They will crush the land, and I will not rescue anyone from their power.”

  78. ዘካርያስ 11:11

It was broken on that day, and the afflicted of the flock who were watching me understood that this was a word from the LORD.

  79. ዘካርያስ 11:13

Then the LORD said to me, “Throw it to the potter, that fine price they set on me!” Taking the thirty pieces of silver, I threw them into the house of the LORD, to the potter.

  80. ዘካርያስ 11:15

Then the LORD said to me, “Take once more the equipment of a foolish shepherd.

  81. ዘካርያስ 12:1

An oracle. The word of the LORD concerning Israel. This is what the LORD declares, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundations of the earth and forms the human spirit within each person:

  82. ዘካርያስ 12:4

On that day, declares the LORD, I will strike all the horses with terror and their riders with madness. I will keep my eyes open over the house of Judah, but I will strike the horses of the peoples with blindness.

  83. ዘካርያስ 12:5

Then the clans of Judah will say to themselves, “The people of Jerusalem are our strength, through the LORD of Armies, their God.”

  84. ዘካርያስ 12:7

The LORD will rescue the tents of Judah first, so that the honor of the house of David and of the people of Jerusalem will not be raised above Judah.

  85. ዘካርያስ 12:8

On that day the LORD will shield the people of Jerusalem. On that day even the feeblest of them will be like David, and David’s house like God, like the angel of the LORD at their head.

  86. ዘካርያስ 13:2

On that day, declares the LORD of Armies, I will wipe out the names of the idols from the land, and no one will remember them any more. The prophets too, and the spirit of impurity, I will remove from the land.

  87. ዘካርያስ 13:3

If anyone still prophesies, his own father and mother will say to him, “You must not live, because you have spoken lies in the name of the LORD.” And when he prophesies, his own father and mother will run him through.

  88. ዘካርያስ 13:7

Awake, sword, against my shepherd, against the man who stands next to me, declares the LORD of Armies. Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will scatter; I will turn my hand against even the little ones.

  89. ዘካርያስ 13:8

In the whole land, declares the LORD, two-thirds will be cut off and die, but one-third will be left in it.

  90. ዘካርያስ 13:9

I will bring this third through the fire; I will refine them as silver is refined and test them as one tests gold. They will call on my name, and I will answer. I will say, “This is my people,” and they will say, “The LORD is my God.”

  91. ዘካርያስ 14:1

Look, a day of the LORD is coming, when the plunder taken from you will be shared out within your walls.

  92. ዘካርያስ 14:3

Then the LORD will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights on the day of battle.

  93. ዘካርያስ 14:5

You will flee through the valley of my mountains, for the valley between the mountains will reach as far as Azal. You will run as you ran from the earthquake during the reign of Uzziah king of Judah. And the LORD my God will come; all the holy ones will be with you.

  94. ዘካርያስ 14:7

It will be a day like no other, a day known to the LORD, without day or night; and when evening comes, there will be light.

  95. ዘካርያስ 14:9

The LORD will be king over all the earth. On that day the LORD will be one, and his name one.

  96. ዘካርያስ 14:12

This is the plague with which the LORD will strike all the peoples who made war on Jerusalem: their flesh will rot while they are still on their feet; their eyes will rot in their sockets; their tongues will rot in their mouths.

  97. ዘካርያስ 14:13

On that day a great panic from the LORD will fall on them. They will seize one another by the hand, and each will raise a hand against the other.

  98. ዘካርያስ 14:16

Then all who survive from all the nations that attacked Jerusalem will go up every year to worship the King, the LORD of Armies, and to keep the Festival of Booths.

  99. ዘካርያስ 14:17

If any of the families of the earth fail to go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of Armies, no rain will fall on them.

  100. ዘካርያስ 14:18

If the people of Egypt do not go up and come, they will have no rain either; the plague will come on them with which the LORD strikes the nations that do not go up to keep the Festival of Booths.

  101. ዘካርያስ 14:20

On that day the bells of the horses will bear the words “Holy to the LORD”, and in the house of the LORD the cooking pots will be like the bowls in front of the altar.

  102. ዘካርያስ 14:21

In Jerusalem and Judah every pot will be holy to the LORD of Armies, and all who offer sacrifices will come and use them to boil their meat. And on that day there will no longer be a trader in the house of the LORD of Armies.
