These, then, are the LORD’s appointed festivals. Announce them as holy assemblies, at which food offerings are brought to the LORD: burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings, what each day requires on that day,
over and above the LORD’s Sabbaths and over and above your gifts, all your vows and all your freewill offerings that you give to the LORD.
But when you have brought in what the land has produced, keep the LORD’s festival for seven days, starting on the fifteenth day of the seventh month. On both the first day and the eighth there is to be a day of Sabbath rest.
On the first day gather the fruit of fine trees, fronds from palm trees, branches from trees thick with leaves, and willows that grow by the streams. Then celebrate before the LORD your God for seven days.
Each year you are to keep this seven-day festival for the LORD. It is a permanent rule for all your generations that you keep it in the seventh month.
so that every generation of yours may know this: when I brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt, I made them live in booths. I am the LORD your God.’”
In this way Moses made known the appointed festivals of the LORD to the Israelites.
The LORD spoke to Moses. He said,
Aaron is to set it in order in the tent of meeting, outside the curtain in front of the testimony, so that it burns before the LORD from evening until morning without fail. This is a permanent rule for all your generations.
He is to set the lamps in order on the pure gold lampstand before the LORD, without fail.
Set them out on the pure gold table before the LORD, in two rows with six loaves to a row.
Put pure frankincense on each row. It is to be a memorial portion for the bread, a food offering to the LORD.
Every Sabbath day he is to set it out before the LORD, without fail. It comes from the Israelites as a covenant that lasts forever.
The bread is to go to Aaron and his sons, and they must eat it in a holy place, because it is most holy for him, his permanent share of the food offerings to the LORD.”
They held him under guard, waiting for a clear ruling from the LORD.
The LORD spoke to Moses. He said,
Whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD must be put to death. The whole congregation must stone that person. The outsider is no different from the native-born: whoever blasphemes the Name must die.
There is to be a single standard of justice for you, the same for outsider and native-born alike, for I am the LORD your God.’”
Moses passed this on to the Israelites, and they brought the man who had cursed out of the camp and killed him with stones. The Israelites did exactly what the LORD had commanded Moses.
The LORD spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai. He said,
“Speak to the Israelites and tell them: ‘When you enter the land I am giving you, the land is to have a Sabbath rest in honor of the LORD.
But the seventh year is to be a Sabbath of complete rest for the land, a Sabbath for the LORD, when you neither sow your fields nor prune your vineyards.
So do not cheat one another; fear your God instead. I am the LORD your God.
I am the LORD your God. It was I who brought you out of the land of Egypt, so that I could give you the land of Canaan and be your God.
For the Israelites are slaves who belong to me. They are my slaves, the people I brought out of the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.
Do not make worthless idols for yourselves, and do not set up a carved image or a sacred pillar. Do not place a stone carved with images anywhere in your land in order to bow down before it, for I am the LORD your God.
You are to keep my Sabbaths and stand in awe of my sanctuary. I am the LORD.
I am the LORD your God. I brought you out of the land of Egypt, where you were their slaves. I snapped the crossbars of the yoke on your neck and made you walk upright.
But even then, while they are in their enemies’ land, I will not cast them off, nor will I loathe them so much that I make an end of them and break my covenant with them. For I am the LORD their God.
I will remember, for their good, the covenant I made with the generation before them, whom I led out of the land of Egypt while the nations looked on, to be their God. I am the LORD.’”
These are the statutes, the rulings and the instructions that the LORD set between himself and the Israelites on Mount Sinai through Moses.
The LORD spoke to Moses. He said,
“Speak to the Israelites and tell them: ‘When anyone makes a special vow to give the LORD the value of a person,
If the vow is of an animal of the kind that may be presented as an offering to the LORD, any such animal given to the LORD becomes holy.
If the vow is of an unclean animal, of the kind that may not be presented as an offering to the LORD, the animal is to be brought before the priest,
When anyone consecrates a house as holy to the LORD, the priest is to judge whether it is in good or poor condition and set its value. The value the priest sets will stand.
If anyone consecrates to the LORD part of a field that is their family’s land, its value will follow the seed needed to sow it: fifty shekels of silver for about 6 bushels of barley seed.
When the field is released in the Jubilee, it will be holy to the LORD, like a field that is devoted to him. It will belong to the priest as his own land.
If someone consecrates to the LORD a field they have bought, which is not part of their family’s land,
the priest will work out the amount of the valuation up to the Year of Jubilee, and that person must pay the valuation on the same day as a holy gift to the LORD.
But no one may consecrate the firstborn of an animal, since a firstborn already belongs to the LORD. Whether it is from the cattle or the flock, it is the LORD’s.
But anything that anyone devotes to the LORD from what they own, whether human or animal or a field they hold as family land, may not be sold and may not be bought back. All that is devoted is most holy to the LORD.
All the tithe of the land belongs to the LORD, both grain from what is sown and fruit from the trees. It is holy to the LORD.
As for the herd and the flock, of all the animals that pass under the rod as they are counted, every tenth one will be holy to the LORD.
These are the commandments the LORD laid on Moses for the Israelites, on Mount Sinai.
