  59. 2 Reyes 9:25

Jehu said to his officer Bidkar, “Pick him up and throw him on the plot of ground that was Naboth the Jezreelite’s field. Remember how you and I were riding side by side behind his father Ahab, when the LORD spoke this oracle against him:

  60. 2 Reyes 9:26

‘I surely saw the blood of Naboth and of his sons yesterday, declares the LORD, and I will repay you on this plot of ground, declares the LORD.’ So now pick him up and throw him on that plot of ground, as the LORD said.”

  61. 2 Reyes 9:36

They went back and told Jehu, and he said, “This is the word of the LORD that he spoke through his servant Elijah the Tishbite: ‘The dogs will eat the flesh of Jezebel on the plot of ground at Jezreel,

  62. 2 Reyes 10:10

  67. 2 Reyes 10:31

  75. 2 Reyes 11:17

Jehoiada made the covenant between the LORD, the king and the people, that they would be the people of the LORD. He also made one between the king and the people.

  76. 2 Reyes 11:18

Then all the people of the land went to Baal’s house and tore it down. They smashed its altars and its images to pieces, and killed Mattan, Baal’s priest, before the altars. The priest posted guards over the house of the LORD.

  77. 2 Reyes 11:19

  80. 2 Reyes 12:10

Then Jehoiada the priest took a chest and drilled a hole in its lid. He placed it next to the altar, on the right side as people enter the house of the LORD. The priests who guarded the doorway put into it all the money brought into the house of the LORD.

  81. 2 Reyes 12:11

Each time they saw that the chest held a large sum, the king’s secretary and the high priest came up. They tied up in bags the money found in the house of the LORD and counted it.

  82. 2 Reyes 12:12

Then they gave the weighed money to the men doing the work, who had been put in charge of the house of the LORD. These paid it out to the carpenters and the builders who were working on the house of the LORD,

  83. 2 Reyes 12:13

and to the masons and the stonecutters. With it they also bought timber and dressed stone for mending the house of the LORD, and paid every other cost of the repairs.

  84. 2 Reyes 12:14

But none of the money brought into the house of the LORD was used to make silver basins, wick trimmers, sprinkling bowls, trumpets, or any other articles of gold or silver for the house of the LORD,

So the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and he gave them into the power of Hazael king of Aram and of Ben-hadad son of Hazael throughout that time.

Then Jehoahaz pleaded with the LORD for favor, and the LORD listened to him, because he saw how the king of Aram was oppressing Israel.

He said, “Open the window toward the east,” and he opened it. Elisha said, “Shoot!” and he shot. Then Elisha said, “The LORD’s arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Aram! You will strike down Aram at Aphek until you have made an end of it.”

  94. 2 Reyes 13:23

  95. 2 Reyes 14:3

He did what was right in the sight of the LORD, yet not as his ancestor David had done. He did everything just as his father Joash had done.

  96. 2 Reyes 14:6

But he did not put to death the children of the murderers. In this he kept to the book of the law of Moses, in which the LORD commanded, “Parents are not to be put to death for their children, nor children for their parents. Each one is to be put to death only for their own sin.”

  104. 2 Reyes 15:9

  105. 2 Reyes 15:12

This was the word of the LORD that he had spoken to Jehu: “Your sons will sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.” And so it happened.

  107. 2 Reyes 15:24

He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who led Israel to sin.

  112. 2 Reyes 16:2

Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. He did not do what was right in the sight of the LORD his God, as his ancestor David had done.

  113. 2 Reyes 16:3

He walked in the way of the kings of Israel. He even made his son pass through the fire, following the detestable practices of the nations that the LORD had driven out ahead of the Israelites.

  114. 2 Reyes 16:8

Ahaz took the silver and gold to be found in the house of the LORD and in the palace treasuries, and he sent it as a bribe to the king of Assyria.

  115. 2 Reyes 16:14

As for the bronze altar that stood before the LORD, he moved it from the front of the temple, from its place between the new altar and the house of the LORD, and set it beside the new altar on the north.

  116. 2 Reyes 16:18

He also removed from the house of the LORD the covered place for the Sabbath that had been built at the temple, and the king’s outer entrance. He did this because of the king of Assyria.

  117. 2 Reyes 17:2

He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, yet not as the kings of Israel before him had done.

  118. 2 Reyes 17:7

This happened because the Israelites had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them up from the land of Egypt and out from under the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. They had feared other gods.

  119. 2 Reyes 17:8

They walked in the statutes of the nations whom the LORD had driven out before the Israelites, and in the statutes that the kings of Israel had made.

  120. 2 Reyes 17:9

In secret the Israelites did things against the LORD their God that were not right. They built high places for themselves in all their towns, from the watchtower to the fortified city.

  121. 2 Reyes 17:11

There on all the high places they burned incense, as the nations had done whom the LORD carried away before them, and they did evil things that provoked the LORD to anger.

  122. 2 Reyes 17:12

They served the idols, though the LORD had told them, “You must not do this.”

  123. 2 Reyes 17:13

Yet the LORD warned Israel and Judah through every prophet and every seer: “Turn back from your evil ways. Keep my commandments and my statutes, in keeping with the whole law that I commanded your ancestors and sent to you through my servants the prophets.”

  124. 2 Reyes 17:14

But they would not listen. They stiffened their necks as their ancestors had done, who did not trust in the LORD their God.

  125. 2 Reyes 17:15

They rejected his statutes, the covenant he had made with their ancestors, and the decrees by which he had warned them. They went after worthless idols and became worthless themselves. They followed the nations around them, although the LORD had commanded them not to do as those nations did.

  126. 2 Reyes 17:16

They abandoned every commandment of the LORD their God and made themselves cast images, two calves. They made an Asherah pole, bowed down to all the host of heaven, and served Baal.

  127. 2 Reyes 17:17

They made their sons and daughters pass through the fire, practiced divination and read omens, and sold themselves to do what was evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger.

  128. 2 Reyes 17:18

So the LORD was very angry with Israel and removed them from his presence. None was left but the tribe of Judah alone.

  129. 2 Reyes 17:19

Even Judah failed to keep the commandments of the LORD their God. They walked in the statutes that Israel had made.

  130. 2 Reyes 17:20

So the LORD rejected all Israel’s descendants. He afflicted them and handed them over to plunderers, until he had thrown them out of his presence.

  131. 2 Reyes 17:21

When he had torn Israel from David’s house, they made Jeroboam son of Nebat king. Jeroboam drove Israel away from following the LORD and led them to commit a great sin.

  132. 2 Reyes 17:23

until the LORD removed Israel from his presence, as he had said through all his servants the prophets. So Israel went into exile from its own land to Assyria, to this day.

  133. 2 Reyes 17:25

When they first lived there they did not fear the LORD, so the LORD sent lions among them, and the lions killed some of them.

  134. 2 Reyes 17:28

So one of the priests who had been carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel, and he taught them how they should fear the LORD.

  135. 2 Reyes 17:32

They feared the LORD, but they also appointed priests of the high places from all sorts of their own people, who offered sacrifices for them in the shrines of the high places.

  136. 2 Reyes 17:33

They feared the LORD, and they served their own gods, according to the custom of the nations from which they had been carried away.

  137. 2 Reyes 17:34

To this day they keep to their former customs. They do not truly fear the LORD, and they do not follow their statutes and rulings, or the law and the commandment that the LORD gave the descendants of Jacob, the man he named Israel.

  138. 2 Reyes 17:35

The LORD had made a covenant with them and commanded them, “Do not fear other gods, or bow down to them, or serve them, or sacrifice to them,

  139. 2 Reyes 17:36

but fear the LORD, who brought you up from the land of Egypt with great power and an outstretched arm. Bow down to him, and sacrifice to him.

  140. 2 Reyes 17:39

Fear the LORD your God instead, and he will rescue you from the power of all your enemies.”

  141. 2 Reyes 17:41

So these nations feared the LORD and also served their idols. Their children and their grandchildren have done as their ancestors did, to this day.

  142. 2 Reyes 18:3

He did what was right in the sight of the LORD, in every way as his ancestor David had done.

  143. 2 Reyes 18:5

He trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel. Among all the kings of Judah there was no one like him, either after him or among those who were before him.

  144. 2 Reyes 18:6

He held fast to the LORD and did not turn away from following him. He kept the commandments the LORD had given to Moses.

  145. 2 Reyes 18:7

The LORD was with him, and he succeeded in everything he set out to do. He rebelled against the king of Assyria and would not serve him.

  146. 2 Reyes 18:12

This happened because they did not obey the voice of the LORD their God, but broke his covenant, everything Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded. They would neither listen nor do it.

  147. 2 Reyes 18:15

Hezekiah handed over to him all the silver to be found in the LORD’s house and in the treasuries of the king’s palace.

  148. 2 Reyes 18:16

At that time Hezekiah stripped the gold from the doors of the LORD’s temple and from the doorposts that he, Hezekiah king of Judah, had covered with it, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

  149. 2 Reyes 18:22

Or if you tell me, “Our trust is in the LORD our God,” did Hezekiah not get rid of his high places and his altars? Did he not tell Judah and Jerusalem, “It is before this altar in Jerusalem that you must bow down”?

  150. 2 Reyes 18:25

Now, was it apart from the LORD that I came up against this place to ruin it? It was the LORD who said to me, “Go up against this land and ruin it.”’”

  151. 2 Reyes 18:30

And do not let Hezekiah lead you to rely on the LORD when he tells you, “The LORD is sure to rescue us. The king of Assyria will never be given this city.”’

  152. 2 Reyes 18:32

until I come to move you to a country like your own, a country of grain and fresh wine, of bread and vineyards, of olive oil and honey. Then you will live and not die. Do not listen to Hezekiah, for he is leading you astray when he says, “The LORD will rescue us.”

  153. 2 Reyes 18:35

Among all the gods of the lands, which ones have rescued their land from my hand, that the LORD should rescue Jerusalem from me?’”

  154. 2 Reyes 19:1

As soon as King Hezekiah heard it, he tore his clothes, wrapped himself in sackcloth, and entered the house of the LORD.

  155. 2 Reyes 19:4

Perhaps the LORD your God will hear everything the chief officer said when his master the king of Assyria sent him to insult the living God, and will call him to account for the words the LORD your God has heard. Lift up a prayer, then, for the remnant that is still here.”

  156. 2 Reyes 19:6

Isaiah said to them, “Say to your master, ‘The LORD says this: Do not be frightened by what you have heard, the words with which the king of Assyria’s lackeys have reviled me.

  157. 2 Reyes 19:14

Hezekiah took the letter from the messengers’ hand and read it through. He went up to the house of the LORD and opened it out in the presence of the LORD.

  158. 2 Reyes 19:15

Then Hezekiah prayed before the LORD: “LORD, God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim: you, and no one else, are God of every kingdom on earth. It was you who made the heavens and the earth.

  159. 2 Reyes 19:16

Turn your ear, LORD, and listen; open your eyes, LORD, and look. Hear the words of Sennacherib, who has sent his envoy to insult the living God.

  160. 2 Reyes 19:17

It is true, LORD, that the kings of Assyria have devastated the nations and their lands,

  161. 2 Reyes 19:19

So now, LORD our God, please rescue us from his power, so that every kingdom on earth will know that you, LORD, alone are God.”

  162. 2 Reyes 19:20

Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent word to Hezekiah: “The LORD, the God of Israel, says this: I have heard your prayer to me about Sennacherib king of Assyria.

  163. 2 Reyes 19:21

This is the word the LORD has spoken against him: The virgin, Daughter Zion, looks down on you and laughs at you; Daughter Jerusalem shakes her head at your back.

  164. 2 Reyes 19:31

For a remnant will go out from Jerusalem, and from Mount Zion those who have escaped. The burning zeal of the LORD of Armies will make this happen.

  165. 2 Reyes 19:32

Therefore the LORD says this about the king of Assyria: He will never set foot in this city. He will not fire a single arrow into it, nor face it with a shield, nor pile up an earthen ramp against its walls.

  166. 2 Reyes 19:33

The road that brought him here will take him back again. This city he will not enter, declares the LORD.

  167. 2 Reyes 19:35

That night the angel of the LORD went out into the Assyrian camp and struck down 185,000. At dawn, when people got up, they found them all lying dead.

  168. 2 Reyes 20:1

In those days Hezekiah fell ill and was close to death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came to him and said, “The LORD says this: Give final instructions to your household, for you are dying and will not live.”

  169. 2 Reyes 20:2

Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall and prayed to the LORD:

  170. 2 Reyes 20:3

“Please, LORD, remember how I have lived before you faithfully and with an undivided heart, doing what is good in your sight.” And Hezekiah wept loudly.

  171. 2 Reyes 20:4

Isaiah had not yet left the middle courtyard when the word of the LORD came to him:

  172. 2 Reyes 20:5

“Go back and say to Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘The LORD, the God of your ancestor David, says this: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. I am about to heal you, and on the third day you will go up to the house of the LORD.

  173. 2 Reyes 20:8

Hezekiah had asked Isaiah, “What sign will there be that the LORD is going to heal me, and that on the third day I will go up to the house of the LORD?”

  174. 2 Reyes 20:9

Isaiah answered, “This will be your sign from the LORD that the LORD will carry out what he has said: Should the shadow go forward ten steps, or should it go back ten steps?”

  175. 2 Reyes 20:11

Then the prophet Isaiah called out to the LORD, and he made the shadow go back ten steps, back up the steps of Ahaz that it had gone down.

  176. 2 Reyes 20:16

Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Listen to the word of the LORD:

  177. 2 Reyes 20:17

Look, a time is coming when all that is in your palace, everything your ancestors have laid up until today, will be hauled off to Babylon. Not one thing will remain, says the LORD.

  178. 2 Reyes 20:19

Hezekiah answered Isaiah, “This word of the LORD that you have brought is good.” He was thinking, “Is it not good, if there will be peace and stability as long as I live?”

  179. 2 Reyes 21:2

He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, following the detestable practices of the nations that the LORD had driven out ahead of the Israelites.

  180. 2 Reyes 21:4

He built altars in the house of the LORD, the house about which the LORD had said, “In Jerusalem I will put my name.”

  181. 2 Reyes 21:5

He built altars to all the host of heaven in the two courtyards of the house of the LORD.

  182. 2 Reyes 21:6

He made his son pass through the fire, practiced fortune-telling and read omens, and consulted a medium and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger.

  183. 2 Reyes 21:7

He placed the carved Asherah image he had made in the house about which the LORD had said to David and to his son Solomon, “In this house, and in Jerusalem, the city I chose from among all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever.

  184. 2 Reyes 21:9

But they did not listen. Manasseh led them astray, so that they did more evil than the nations the LORD had destroyed ahead of the Israelites.

  185. 2 Reyes 21:10

The LORD spoke through his servants the prophets, saying,

  186. 2 Reyes 21:12

therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, says this: Look, I am about to bring such disaster on Jerusalem and Judah that it will make both ears of all who hear of it tingle.

  187. 2 Reyes 21:16

Manasseh also shed so much innocent blood that he filled Jerusalem with it from one end to the other. This was besides the sin he led Judah into, so that they did what was evil in the sight of the LORD.

  188. 2 Reyes 21:20

He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father Manasseh had done.

  189. 2 Reyes 21:22

He abandoned the LORD, the God of his ancestors, and did not walk in the way of the LORD.

  190. 2 Reyes 22:2

He did what was right in the sight of the LORD and walked in all the way of his ancestor David. He did not turn aside to the right or to the left.

  191. 2 Reyes 22:3

In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent the secretary Shaphan son of Azaliah, son of Meshullam, to the house of the LORD, saying,

  192. 2 Reyes 22:4

“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest and have him count up the money brought into the house of the LORD, the money the doorkeepers have taken in from the people,

  193. 2 Reyes 22:5

and have them hand it to the men doing the work, who have been put in charge of the house of the LORD. Let these pay it to the workmen in the house of the LORD who are repairing the damage to the house,

  194. 2 Reyes 22:8

Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the secretary, “In the house of the LORD I have found the book of the law.” Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

  195. 2 Reyes 22:9

Shaphan the secretary went to the king and reported to him, “Your officials have emptied out the money found in the house and handed it over to the men doing the work, who have been put in charge of the house of the LORD.”

  196. 2 Reyes 22:13

“Go and ask the LORD on my behalf, and on behalf of the people and all Judah, about the words of this book that has been found. The LORD’s anger burns hot against us, because our ancestors did not listen to the words of this book or do all that it lays down for us.”

  197. 2 Reyes 22:15

She said to them, “The LORD, the God of Israel, says this: Tell the man who sent you to me,

  198. 2 Reyes 22:16

‘The LORD says this: I am about to bring disaster on this place and on those who live in it, all the words in the book the king of Judah has read,

  199. 2 Reyes 22:18

But to the king of Judah, who sent you to ask the LORD, say this: ‘The LORD, the God of Israel, says this: As for the words you have heard,

  200. 2 Reyes 22:19

because your heart was tender, and when you heard what I spoke against this place and its people, that they would become a horror and a curse, you humbled yourself before the LORD; and because you tore your clothes and wept before me, I in turn have heard you, declares the LORD.

  201. 2 Reyes 23:2

The king went up to the house of the LORD, and with him went all the people of Judah and all who lived in Jerusalem, the priests and the prophets, and all the people, from the least to the greatest. In their hearing he read out all the words of the book of the covenant, which had been found in the house of the LORD.

  202. 2 Reyes 23:3

The king stood by the pillar and made the covenant in the presence of the LORD: to follow the LORD and to keep his commandments, his decrees and his statutes with all his heart and all his being, and so to carry out the words of this covenant written in this book. And all the people committed themselves to the covenant.

  203. 2 Reyes 23:4

The king ordered Hilkiah the high priest, the priests next in rank and the keepers of the threshold to bring out of the temple of the LORD all the objects made for Baal, for Asherah and for all the host of heaven. He burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron Valley and carried their ashes to Bethel.

  204. 2 Reyes 23:6

He took the Asherah pole out of the house of the LORD to the Kidron Valley outside Jerusalem. He burned it there in the Kidron Valley, ground it to dust and threw the dust on the graves of the common people.

  205. 2 Reyes 23:7

He tore down the quarters of the male shrine prostitutes in the house of the LORD, where the women wove coverings for Asherah.

  206. 2 Reyes 23:9

The priests of the high places did not serve at the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they ate unleavened bread with their fellow priests.

  207. 2 Reyes 23:11

He removed the horses the kings of Judah had dedicated to the sun from the entrance to the house of the LORD, by the room of Nathan-melech the official, which was in the precincts. And he burned up the chariots of the sun.

  208. 2 Reyes 23:12

The king pulled down the altars that the kings of Judah had made on the roof of the upper room of Ahaz, and the altars Manasseh had built in the two courts of the house of the LORD. He broke them in pieces and removed them from there, and he threw their dust into the Kidron Valley.

  209. 2 Reyes 23:16

As Josiah turned around, he saw the tombs there on the hillside, and he sent men to take the bones out of the tombs. He burned them on the altar and so defiled it, in keeping with the word of the LORD that the man of God had cried out when he foretold these things.

  210. 2 Reyes 23:21

The king commanded all the people, “Keep the Passover to the LORD your God in the way that is written in this book of the covenant.”

  211. 2 Reyes 23:23

But this Passover was kept to the LORD in Jerusalem in the eighteenth year of King Josiah.

  212. 2 Reyes 23:24

Josiah also purged the mediums and the spiritists, the household gods, the idols and all the detestable things to be seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem. He did this so as to carry out the words of the law, as they were written in the book Hilkiah the priest had discovered in the house of the LORD.

  213. 2 Reyes 23:25

Before him there was no king like him, who turned to the LORD with his whole heart, with his whole being, and with all his strength, in keeping with all the law of Moses; and after him no one like him arose.

  214. 2 Reyes 23:26

Even so, the LORD did not turn away from the fierceness of his great anger, which burned against Judah because of all the ways Manasseh had provoked him.

  215. 2 Reyes 23:27

The LORD said, “I will remove Judah from my sight too, as I removed Israel. I will reject this city I chose, Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, ‘My name will be there.’”

  216. 2 Reyes 23:32

He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, just as his ancestors had done.

  217. 2 Reyes 23:37

He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, just as his ancestors had done.

  218. 2 Reyes 24:2

The LORD sent raiding bands of Chaldeans, Arameans, Moabites and Ammonites against him. He sent them against Judah to destroy it, in keeping with the word the LORD had spoken through his servants the prophets.

  219. 2 Reyes 24:3

Surely it was at the command of the LORD that this came upon Judah, to put them away from his presence because of Manasseh’s sins, all that he had done,

  220. 2 Reyes 24:4

and also because of the innocent blood he had shed. He had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the LORD was not willing to forgive.

  221. 2 Reyes 24:9

He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, just as his father had done.

  222. 2 Reyes 24:13

He carried off from there all the treasures of the house of the LORD and those of the king’s palace, and he cut up all the gold vessels that Solomon king of Israel had made for the temple of the LORD, just as the LORD had said.

  223. 2 Reyes 24:19

He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, just as Jehoiakim had done.

  224. 2 Reyes 24:20

It was because of the anger of the LORD that all this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until he cast them out of his presence. And Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

  225. 2 Reyes 25:9

He burned the house of the LORD, the king’s palace and all the houses of Jerusalem; every important house he burned down.

  226. 2 Reyes 25:13

The Chaldeans broke up the bronze pillars that were in the house of the LORD, the stands, and the bronze Sea that was in the house of the LORD, and they hauled the metal off to Babylon.

  227. 2 Reyes 25:16

As for the two pillars, the one Sea and the stands Solomon made for the house of the LORD, the bronze of all these things was more than could be weighed.
