the word of the LORD came to the priest Ezekiel son of Buzi, there in the land of the Chaldeans beside the Kebar Canal. There the hand of the LORD came on him.
Like a rainbow in the clouds on a day of rain, so was the brightness on every side. This was what the likeness of the glory of the LORD looked like. When I saw it, I fell face down, and I heard the voice of someone speaking.
Then the Spirit lifted me up, and behind me I heard a great rumbling sound: “Blessed be the glory of the LORD from its place!”
The Spirit lifted me up and carried me off, and I went in bitterness and in the heat of my spirit, with the hand of the LORD pressing hard on me.
After the seven days were over, the word of the LORD came to me:
There the hand of the LORD came on me, and he said to me, “Get up and go out into the valley, and there I will speak with you.”
So I got up and went out into the valley, and there stood the glory of the LORD, like the glory I had seen by the Kebar Canal, and I fell face down.
The LORD then said, “This is how the Israelites will eat their food, unclean, among the nations where I will drive them.”
Then my anger will be spent; I will satisfy my wrath on them and be appeased. Then they will know that I, the LORD, have spoken in my jealousy, when I spend my wrath on them.
You will be a disgrace and an object of scorn, a warning and a horror for the nations around you, as I carry out judgments on you in anger and wrath and with furious rebukes. I, the LORD, have spoken.
I will send famine and wild animals against you, and they will rob you of your children. Plague and bloodshed will pass through you, and I will bring the sword against you. I, the LORD, have spoken.”
The word of the LORD came to me:
The slain will fall among you. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
Then they will know that I am the LORD, and that I did not threaten in vain to bring this disaster on them.
Then you will know that I am the LORD, as their slain are lying among their idols, around their altars, on every high hill and on all the mountaintops, under every spreading tree and every leafy oak, the places where they offered pleasing aromas to all their idols.
I will stretch out my hand against them and make the land a desolate waste from the wilderness to Diblah, wherever they live. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
The word of the LORD came to me:
I will not look on you with pity or spare you. I will bring your ways down on you, and your detestable practices will remain among you. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
I will not look on you with pity or spare you. I will bring your ways down on you, and your detestable practices will remain among you. Then you will know that I am the LORD, the one who strikes.
Their silver they will fling into the streets, and their gold will be something unclean. Their silver and their gold will not be able to save them on the day of the LORD’s fury. It cannot satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs, for it made them stumble into sin.
The king will mourn, the prince will be clothed in despair, and the hands of the people of the land will shake with fear. I will deal with them according to their ways and judge them by the standards they themselves use. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
He said to me, “Son of man, do you see what the elders of the house of Israel practice in darkness, each in the room of his own carved image? They say, ‘The LORD does not see us; the LORD has abandoned the land.’”
Next he brought me to the doorway of the north gate of the house of the LORD. Women were sitting there, weeping for Tammuz.
Then he brought me into the inner court of the house of the LORD. There, at the doorway of the LORD’s temple, between the porch and the altar, stood about twenty-five men. They had turned their backs on the temple of the LORD and were facing east, bowing down to the sun in the east.
The LORD said to him, “Go all through the city, all through Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the people who sigh and groan over all the detestable practices committed in it.”
He said to me, “The guilt of the house of Israel and Judah is immense. The land is full of bloodshed and the city full of injustice. For they say, ‘The LORD has abandoned the land; the LORD does not see.’”
Then the glory of the LORD rose from above the cherub and moved to the threshold of the temple. Cloud filled the temple, and the court was flooded with the radiance of the glory of the LORD.
Then the glory of the LORD went out from the threshold of the temple and stopped above the cherubim.
As I watched, the cherubim spread their wings and rose from the ground, and they went out with the wheels beside them. They halted at the entrance to the east gate of the LORD’s house, with the glory of the God of Israel above them.
Then the Spirit lifted me up and carried me to the east gate of the house of the LORD, the gate facing east. At its entrance were twenty-five men, and I saw among them Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, officials of the people.
Then the Spirit of the LORD fell on me, and he said to me, “Say: The LORD says this: That is what you are saying, house of Israel, but I know the thoughts that rise in your minds.
You will fall by the sword; I will judge you at the border of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
Then you will know that I am the LORD. You have not followed my statutes or carried out my rulings; instead you have acted by the rulings of the nations around you.”
The word of the LORD came to me:
Son of man, your brothers, your own brothers, the relatives who have the right to redeem you, and the whole house of Israel, all of them, are the ones of whom the people of Jerusalem have said, “Stay far away from the LORD! It is to us that this land has been given as a possession.”
The glory of the LORD went up from the middle of the city and stopped over the mountain east of the city.
And I told the exiles everything that the LORD had shown me.
The word of the LORD came to me:
In the morning the word of the LORD came to me:
Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I scatter them among the nations and spread them across the lands.
But I will spare a few of them from the sword, famine and plague, so that among the nations where they go they may tell about all their detestable practices. Then they will know that I am the LORD.

You have not gone up into the breaches or rebuilt the wall for the house of Israel, so that it might stand firm in battle on the day of the LORD.
Their visions are false and their divination is a lie. They say, “The LORD declares,” though the LORD has not sent them, and yet they expect their word to come true.
Is it not a false vision you have seen, and a lying divination you have spoken, when you say, “The LORD declares,” though I myself have not spoken?
I will tear down the wall you covered with whitewash and level it to the ground, so that its foundation is laid bare. When it falls, you will be destroyed under it. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

So you will see no more false visions and practice no more divination. I will rescue my people from your power. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
The word of the LORD came to me:
Therefore speak to them and tell them: The Lord GOD says this: When anyone of the house of Israel sets up idols in their heart, puts the stumbling block of their guilt before their face, and then goes to the prophet, I the LORD myself will give that person an answer, as the great number of their idols deserves,
For if anyone of the house of Israel, or of the outsiders who live in Israel, separates themselves from me, sets up idols in their heart, puts the stumbling block of their guilt before their face, and then comes to a prophet to inquire of me through him, I the LORD will answer that person myself.
I will set my face against that person and make them a sign and a byword. I will cut them off from my people. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
And if the prophet is deceived and speaks a message, it is I, the LORD, who have deceived that prophet. I will raise my hand against him and wipe him out from among my people Israel.

I said to them, “Every one of you must throw away the vile idols you look to, and do not make yourselves unclean with the idols of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.”
I also gave them my Sabbaths as a sign between me and them, so that they would know that I am the LORD, the one who sets them apart as holy.
I am the LORD your God. Follow my statutes, and be careful to keep my rulings.
Keep my Sabbaths holy, and they will be a sign between me and you, so that you will know that I am the LORD your God.”

Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I make the land a desolate waste because of all the detestable things they have done.

The word of the LORD came to me:

Because you said, “Both nations and both countries will be mine; we will take them over,” even though the LORD was there,
Then you will know that I am the LORD. I have heard all the insults you spoke against the mountains of Israel when you said, “They lie desolate; they have been handed to us to devour.”

On the tenth day of the month at the start of the year, in the twenty-fifth year of our exile, the fourteenth year after the city had fallen, on that very day the hand of the LORD came on me, and he brought me there.
and the room facing north is for the priests who are in charge of the altar. These are the descendants of Zadok, the only ones among the descendants of Levi who may come near to the LORD to serve him.”
There was an altar of wood about 5 1/4 feet high and about 3 1/2 feet long. Its corners, its length and its sides were wooden. He said to me, “This is the table that stands before the LORD.”
He said to me, “The north rooms and the south rooms that face the separate area are the holy rooms where the priests who come near to the LORD will eat the most holy offerings. There they will put the most holy offerings: the grain offering, the sin offering and the guilt offering, for the place is holy.
The glory of the LORD came into the temple through the gate that faces east.
Then the Spirit lifted me and carried me into the inner court, and there the glory of the LORD was filling the temple.
Bring them before the LORD, and the priests are to scatter salt on them and offer them up as a burnt offering to the LORD.
The LORD said to me, “This gate is to stay shut. It must not be opened, and no one may come in through it, because the LORD, the God of Israel, has come in through it. Therefore it is to stay shut.
Only the prince, because he is the prince, may sit in the gateway to eat a meal in the presence of the LORD. He is to come in by way of the porch of the gate and go out the same way.”
Then the man brought me through the north gate to the front of the temple. I looked, and the glory of the LORD filled the LORD’s house, and I fell face down.
The LORD said to me, “Son of man, pay close attention. Look carefully and listen closely to everything I tell you about all the statutes and laws of the LORD’s house. Note carefully who may enter the temple and who must be kept out of the sanctuary.
When you allot the land as an inheritance, you are to set apart a special portion for the LORD, a holy portion of the land, about 8 1/4 miles long and about 3 1/3 miles wide. All of it will be holy.
This holy portion of the land is to belong to the priests who serve in the sanctuary, who come near to serve the LORD. It will be a place for their houses and a holy area for the sanctuary.
During the seven days of the festival he is to provide seven young bulls and seven rams without defect as a burnt offering to the LORD each day for the seven days, and a male goat each day as a sin offering.
The people of the land are to bow down in worship before the LORD at the entrance of that gate on the Sabbaths and the new moons.
The burnt offering that the prince offers to the LORD on the Sabbath day is to be six lambs without defect and a ram without defect,
At the appointed festivals, when the people of the land come before the LORD, those who come in by the north gate to worship are to go out by the south gate, and those who come in by the south gate are to go out by the north gate. No one is to go back through the gate by which they came in; each is to go straight out the opposite side.
When the prince provides a freewill offering to the LORD, whether a burnt offering or peace offerings, the gate facing east is to be opened for him, and he is to present his burnt offering or his peace offerings just as on the Sabbath day. When he goes out, the gate is to be shut behind him.
Every day you are to provide a lamb a year old without defect as a burnt offering to the LORD; you are to provide it morning after morning.
With it you are to provide a grain offering every morning: about a gallon of flour and about 1 1/4 quarts of oil to moisten the fine flour. This grain offering to the LORD is a lasting statute, to be kept continually.
The special portion that you are to set apart for the LORD is to be about 8 1/4 miles long and about 3 1/3 miles wide.
This holy portion is to belong to the priests. It is to measure about 8 1/4 miles on the north side, about 3 1/3 miles on the west side, about 3 1/3 miles on the east side and about 8 1/4 miles on the south side. The sanctuary of the LORD is to be in the middle of it.
They must not sell any of it or exchange it, and this best part of the land must not pass to anyone else, for it is holy to the LORD.
The distance around the city will be about 6 miles. And from that day the name of the city will be The LORD Is There.
